Poster: A snowHead

I've been skiing with my Salomon Custom Shell 120 boots for about 5 years. Maybe about 13 or 14 weeks. Mostly they've been great, usual initial boot pain after not skiing for a while but when I've warmed up they are great.
However, I've noticed the right boot is a little tight around the top of the foot where the laces would normally be. Last holiday this seems to have become worse (possibly due to changes from more running) and I had a really numb foot for a week afterwards.
I'm wondering if a) this could be a technique thing b) a boot thing and c) can i get the boots adjusted to cater for this and how much it would cost?
I'm thinking of going to Lockwoods to have it checked out but sometimes there can be a bit of a wait to get to the boot guys and I wanted to know if I was barking up the wrong tree (and if not to gird myself for the expense)
Any ideas?

I started having ankle pain due to one of my boots being too tight at ball of my ankle and the boot not pinching/tightening against my lower calf enough.
I had this diagnosed, and overnight had a pad added to the inner boot to increase the grip to my calf, and the ankle section heated and pushed out. Cost? A massive...30 EUR at zenith in VT, best 30 I've ever spent.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I had pain in about the same place. The cause turned out to be a part of the moulding - where the lower part of the boot meets the upper - having been folded over when I reinserted the liners. Might be worth checking that nothing similar is going on?

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Are you skiing anytime soon. Just returned from Morzine where one of the group experienced some pain by big toe knuckle. He spoke to the guys in the hire shop who adjusted his boot (blew it out) for free as he was already hiring skis.

@Dmitri, That's odd, my front clips are so loose that I often find them undone. Unless you're in pow all day long, there really isn't much snow to get in. You could also try changing socks to a thinner pair, try Smart Wool or Falke, they both make nice warm but thin socks.

Your liners will be dead and packed out causing your foot to move around more, my CS120's liners were utterly gone after 10 weeks of use.

@RichClark, Seem to have more problems in warmer conditions. If it's properly cold the snow just sits on them but if it's a bit warmer and the snow is very wet....then the seeping begins
I tried new socks my last week out and it did help with the cold feet. I suppose I just want my right boot to be the same as my left, which is perfect!
@lordf, thanks I might ask the bootfitter about them.
