Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

what to waterproof leather gloves with?

 Poster: A snowHead

Sorry if it's an old/repeat question.
What do you reckon's the best thing to treat leather gloves and (if different) leather palms/fingers on non-leather gloves? Basically to keep the supple and to make them waterproof & snowproof.
Where do I buy it (if not obvious)?
Thanks.

Nikwax glove proof. Recommend, AFAIR, by Black Diamond and it has certainly done the trick with my several pairs of climbing and skiing gloves.

I use Effax Leather balsam, comes in a good plastic tub that keeps it well and good for all leather goods. Uses natural lanolin amongst other mix of things.
I've used it on gloves, walking boots and leather jackets etc and it's generally available from many suppliers if you search it.

This stuff is pretty good for all leather goods, just put some on the palms of my Hestra gloves.

Nixwax Glove Proof (the liquid) is good as it protects the leather but still it retains some breathability. The solidish wax from hestra or Nixwax is more waterproofing (and longerlasting) but you loose any breathability.

Great. I was wondering where you got it in the UK. I got a sachet when I bought my Hestras recently and was wondering how good it really was. Very Happy

Do any of the products mentioned leave the gloves sticky or do they soak in? I have some stuff which I use to 'feed' my leather chairs at home but despite wiping of the excess and buffing it in the chairs always feel very tacky and covered in cream for quite some time. Don't really want to get glove products smeared all over my own skin (probably needs it, to be fair! ) wink or rucksac, jacket, trousers etc.

 You know it makes sense.

Hestra leather balm is rebranded Renapur leather balm. Better value to pay £12 for 200ml of Renapur than £6 for 30ml of the Hestra balm.

I use Renapur on the leather bits of my BD mitts and on 3 pairs of leather boots.

@Zero_G, Thanks for that, good to know I've been doing something right. I just had a look at the gloves that I treated with Renapur this afternoon, they are completely dry with no greasy residue. The 200ml tub that I use is only half empty and I must have been using it for more than 10 years, on shoes, gloves and leather furniture. Also I can recommend Tenacious Tape for simple repairs on gloves and other waterproof gear that you don't want to sew. I repaired a finger seam on the Hestra gloves with some before I proofed them this afternoon.
