Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Skin size for Whitedot Preachers

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi,

I've found a rather good deal on some BD Ascension skins. The only caveat? They're 125mm wide. Would they be ok to use on my Whitedot Preachers (155 - 112 - 133)?

Cheers,
Jonny

Not really, as they're not wide enough far enough up the ski. You really need a 140mm width.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

To illustrate here's a pic of a wider 130mm wide skin on a Preacher. With a 125mm skin you'd also find the cutting pretty tricky as the offcut will be quite narrow.

The Atomic skins are a good bet... the slick rocker glide front part really works when skinning in deep snow.

I have been using 130s on Preachers for a few years. The only time I have had any issues with grip has been on ice and I don't think that was due to the missing 5mm on each side for a few inches at the front. The G3 cutting tool is pretty good so I didn't have any issues getting the shape right. That all being said, I only climb occasionally and if you want to be sure go with pro advice not some part timer's experience of getting away with it...
