Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Are - food and drink

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Looking for a few places to eat and drink in Are. Wondering whether, like another Skistar resort Hemsedal, the best value food is on the mountain. We'll be taking pack-up lunch I suspect for a few days (and eating in the self-catering rooms on the mountain). Also, anyone know of a decent place for a beer or two?

Its worth seeking out the varmstuga (eating rooms) that are out on the mountain rather than at the bottom of the lifts - we used some lovely ones when were there some years ago - also needed then because it was flesh-witheringly cold. We bought beers in the store and drank in our chalet, but my son was quite young then. Enjoy the trip snowHead

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@Ian Kenvyn, thanks. We'll be using the varmstuga up the mountain - such a civilised thing to do. The kids are a lot older and will probably not turn-down an opportunity to hit a bar.....albeit drinking soft drinks.

If you like ale then head to Parkvillan, it's in a side street on the left as you head down from the main square towards the supermarket/train station. They also do fantastic food, the food is on the pricey side but you definitely get what you pay for.
There is a tee-pee at the top of Tegerfyall(sp?) that does great hot dog wraps filled with chorizo, salsa and crispy onions, they were about a fiver last year, your exchange rate is more favourable this year, well worth stopping there, wood burning stove and decent hot chocolate to cosy up with. I think it's called Mr Bramwells.
If you want to keep up with footy/rugby the corner sports bar is our favourite place to watch sport.
The far side of Rodkullen, in the Ulladalen(sp?),extreme left on your ski map before you hit the gap between Are and Duved/Teger there is an eaterie that does fantastic goulash fairly cheaply, you help yourself to or, if you want a more substantial meal they do really lovely potato pancakes served with salt pork and lingonberry jam. There is a cheap and cheerful burger bar if your teens will miss mcDonalds, it's in the main square near the tram.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

@lilywhite, thanks for that. Hot dog wraps and potato pancakes sound good.

Broken Bar, near the bottom of the funicular is nice for a beer or two, and they do reasonable pub style food, lots of things with chips, etc.
