Hi,
I was hoping to get a group of mates together to go skiing this year but due do various excuses and injuries, I find myself alone in search of a group to hook up with.
Does anyone know of a good (and I say it with a cringe) ' singles ' ski operator where I can go and not feel like a complete loser? (NB i am not trying to offend anyone who has done this before - I just have never done anything like this before, so any advice what-so-ever would be much appreciated). Alternatively if anyone has had any droupouts from their group and they need someone to make up numbers - please drop me a line. I am 24 M and relatively normal, Intermediate Skier, but happy to go with any age group / ability group within reason . I am pretty flexible about dates etc.
Thanks
Matt

I'm heading out to chamonix for the week on 11th march. I'm there to visit a friend of mine whos doing a season but i'm looking for at least one other person to come out to cut out the single suppliment. I'm 27/m and a reasonably good skier.
I've not found any where to stay yet but it should be easy enough.

Friendship Travel offers skiing trips Italy and France usually for "singles" (or married whose other half doesn't ski). Usually a pretty good crowd - no "losers" or wierdos on the trips I have done - mixed ages 20's to 50's!

I go skiing on my own for some of my trips each season, it's usually not a problem. A few tips are-
Choose a TO who does a room matching scheme, so avoiding a single supplement, often you will end up with a room to yourself anyway. Most TOs will try and keep single people from having to share unless the resort is absolutely packed, as it doesn't cost them any extra and increases customer satisfaction.
Choose a TO who does at least a few days ski-hosting so that you get to ski with people for the first day or two until you've made friends, it also works out well for the apres ski.
Think about booking group lessons at the ski school, or joining a guided group for off-piste. If necessary learn a new discipline. All these are great ways to meet people and make friends quickly.
Choose a larger chalet-hotel to stay in, so that there are likely to be many different groups and couples there, and possibly a few other singles, rather than you being the only person stuck in a chalet with one other group who couldn't quite manage to fill the last bedroom.
Choose a resort that isn't particularly well known for it's child friendliness (avoid ski in ski out like the plague if you don't like other people's children), and if possible stay in an adults only chalet or chalet hotel.
Avoid the school holidays. I went skiing on my own to Meribel over Christmas, and for the first time ever I was the only person in the chalet hotel who was on their own, even worse, I was the only one without children in their party. The feeling of being a freak only lasted a short while though.
If you're not a member already, and you're a good enough skier, go and meet the Ski Club rep, join, and ski with them for a couple of days, which is also a great way to meet people, and also have some apres ski.
Last tip, make sure you turn up to the welcome meeting, it's where everyone meets everyone else and start to form their holiday friendships. If you miss it, it can sometimes be a bit intimidating to try and break into some of the little groups after they have formed.
I've found Mark Warners two adults only chalet hotels to be very social, and even their family chalet hotels are very welcoming. If you're budget is a little tighter then some of Ski Worlds chalet hotels are pretty decent. I've not yet tried club-med, but they seem to make a lot of effort to make single travellers welcome.
If all else fails, go to the hotel bar, grab a drink, plaster a smile on your face, and go up and introduce yourself to the friendliest looking group in the room, it's yet to fail for me.

One last thing, once you've been on your own once, you'll never let a lack of someone else being available to go with stop you from skiing again. It's a social sport, ideal for single people to make friends.

Hey Matt
I'm in the same boat and have just booked flights to Geneva for 9-21 Feb but no final destination as yet and wondering whether I'll survive the mountains on my own. If your research has uncovered any good places or you're interested in skiing during the above dates let me know.

Hi Medders I belive the snow is pretty good, at that time of year.I was there a week ago and we had 50 cm of fresh snow it was fantastic. The area is huge. Dan knows the area very well and will ski with you. He is a good skier nad will take you to ski the circuit . you can see the ski area on the web site. I had a ball last year when i went with him. The chalet is great. Not far from the lifts. I would of gone with him this time but he couldnt do the early dates. Go with him and you will meet some great people. If you dont go by mini bus you can fly to geneva and then get the alti bus from the airport to resort i think its about 55 euros return. If you need any other info let me know. Tell Dan i said Hi. I am flying out to Geneva around the 23rd Feb (25th if it has to be changeover day) and coming back around 6th Mar (4th if it has to be changeover day). I haven't decided on a destination out there yet options are Bourg St Maurice for Les Arcs, Nancrouix (still same Massif area), Verchaix or Flaine for Paradiski, or Morzine.
Accom options are a few cheap places i've discounted because of single person sups (but could entertain with 2), a couple of hostel type bunk places at £20 a night, and 1 or 2 chalets where they aren't charging single person sup.
BTW: This was said with the intent that i'm open to lumping in with others

Hello and good evening.
Now this is an extra sort of suggestion as it is silly compared to alpes skiing. However since I'm not going to the Alpes this year I've been going to Milton Feynes SnoZone! Its quite fun and an alternative way to spend a saturday evening from 7pm tp 11pm. In short, I'd like a ski buddy for company, someone who's happy to go up and down the 170m long slope for four hours, get in some practice, and stop now and again for a chat during the evening.
I'm a 41 year old guy who loves skiing and would like to leap from carving to spontaneous slick speedy turns and perhaps a few jumps!
Even if just the once, its quite fun at SnoZone.
Lots of other details about me available if thats important for you.
