Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Very small ski touring gear

I have a request from a client for a ski touring set-up (ideally to rent!) in a very small size. Shoe size 13ish.

Does anyone make kit that small? Tech bindings would work with the right boots, but I can't see the heel-piece on rental skis beings moveable to that extent. And I doubt anyone makes a tech boot that small.

She could use her Alpine boots (sole-length 247) in a compatible binding, but is there anything out there with that much adjustment?

@stevomcd, It might be worth checking out the Hagan Z02 Junior, but I'm not sure it goes that small.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

You could take a pair of Fritschi Freerides (or similar) and chop them down. I've done 3 pairs over the years. M and L size being too long for Mrs boots.
Unscrew the heal mounted gubins, chop the bar to the appropriate length and then remake the hole that existed for the system to operate before reinstalling the heal bits.
The holes can easily be cut with a dremel (or similar).
Probably about an hours work first go around and used Fritschis are cheap or free. Their drawbacks (Slop, reduced ski control) as a binding are less noticeable to a lighter person.

Another option is to Fit the Tech parts to her Alpine boots, its a bit more involved than shortening a Fritshci, but its a few hours with a Dremel, and fixed in place with some araldite and screws. The 3 pairs of Proto's I built for some Pro riders whos sponsor said it was impossible (and then went on to manufacture said boot) got over a 100 days use each before another part of the boot failed.

The Hagan Z02 Junior will go down to a 225mm length boot.

A friend bought one from Braemar Mountain Sports at the start of the season for his kid. Don't think it's on their website, but he seemed to think they got a few in.

If you can find a Silvretta Pure Kidz binding it will take that boot.

Stephane Mougins has both his kids on Dynafit bindings with boots he has modified.

Thanks all! Looks like it's just about do-able with specialist/bodged kit but rental is likely to be impossible!
