Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Advice please - suitable bag for kit and ski boots

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Fed up with carrying ski's, boot bag and a holdall around airports etc. So I'm trying to buy a new larger bag that will fit my ski boots, helmet and kit all in one.

Not sure if a duffel type bag is best or a wheeled bag would be easier to handle. When I have looked online it seems that wheeled bags weigh 4kg's empty so when you add ski boots and kit you could easily end up the wrong side of the airlines 20kg limit on baggage. yet the duffel type bags only weigh 1.5kg's but are not as easy to handle.

What do you use and any recommendations??

I carry my skis separately (and pack base layers/socks etc round them) in a ski bag, and have a largish case which I pack my boots in so I don't have to carry them in another bag. Works for me!

Or you could try something like this:

Wheeled bags are much better for getting through airports, specially if you're also carrying skis. I use an old Karrimor clamshell and my wife has a massive Salomon. It's easy to go over the weight limit if you buy a really big bag and fill it, so picking the right size is important. Boots, ski clothing and gadgets, toiletries etc go in the bottom half of the clamshell. Non-skiing clothing goes in the top. Helmet goes in my carry-on rucksack as it's an awkward shape to pack in with the boots.

I use one of these:
http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/9154885.htm
It only weighs 2.1kg. I put all my gear including ski boots and helmet in there (and sometimes even ski jacket when flying to an airport where I know I won't be walking half a mile across the tarmac in the rain). It's perfect for the job as it's nearly as light as a bag without wheels, but can be pulled around easily whilst carrying skis.

I've got one of these

http://www.outdoormegastore.co.uk/mountain-pac-wheelie-compact-bag.html

Duffle style with wheels but no extendable handle (just a grab handle). Zipped end compartments for ski boots. they also do a larger style (with extendable handle)

they call it a 'weekender' -- however it is large enough for a week or more....

I have this massive Atomic wheeled duffel bag with a boot compartment on each end that my wife bought for me years ago. It's still in remarkably good nick despite many, many encounters with baggage handlers!

Being a duffel bag, once in resort, it can be folded flat and tucked out the way. Plus it makes me look like a pro wink

The mushette has one of these. Room enough for helmet, boots, back protector, gloves, spare clothes, gloves, drink....

My double roller weighs about 4.5kg. With skis, boots (just mine), poles for me and my daughter comes in just over 20kg.

Snow and Rock Weekender http://www.snowandrock.com/snow+rock-weekender-bag//ski-snowboard-outdoor-sports/fcp-product/70889?listing=true

End pockets take boots and outdoor shoes, centre compartment takes everything else. My current one is finally about to be replaced because it's got a rip in it but it's about 15 years old and has seen 60+ weeks of skiing and probably 40+ sets of uncaring airport baggage handlers. Might be the best value I've ever had for £80.

If the bag is to fit skis in, most of the suggestions above are no good other than the large ski holdall similar to this.. http://www.blue-tomato.com/en-GB/product/Dakine-Concourse+Dbl+200+Cm+Skibag-302193300-phoenix/

Question is does @christian@chilley.co.uk, want one bag for everything, or one bag for skis and then one bag for everything else?
