Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Resort good for downhill skiing, cross-country and kids

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hello

Planning a holiday for quite a mixed group and wondered whether anyone could recommend a resort?

One of the group only does cross-county, so cross-country is a must. There are also several strong skiers (downhill) who like extensive skiing areas and off-piste conditions permitting. There will also be children from 5 - 11. Any resort recommendations please??

ISCHGL / GALTUR ticks all the boxes. The only downside is part of the group would have to take the short ride in the free ski bus. Which part being dependent on where you stay.

The Espace Diamant would tick the xc and kids boxes. 120 km of xc tracks at 1600m and above. 195 km downhill. Not an off piste mecca but it exists and is not quickly tracked out. Staying in Les Saisies village would be most convenient. best piste skiing in Notre Dame De Bellecombe. All lift linked.

Morzine I believe has a xc network in addition to the young and extensive criteria.

Val cenis has good child and extensive balance with xc covered by a whole village dedicated to it accessible by bus just a bit further up the Maurienne valley (apologies can't remember the name of this facility).

Pra-de-lys has very extensive xc with equal facilities for children but a little weaker for big experience skiers, some good terrain though both on and off piste.

If Staying in Ischgl itself, the bus is not required. If accommodation is outside Ischgl, then using the bus is no great issue as they stop frequently and closer to the lifts than the car parks. During peak times the buses run every few minutes.

La Clusaz has great xc skiing a few miles up the valley. Chamonix has everythimg you want in spades, though you will disperse a bit. Courmayeur, with great xc skiing one exit closer to Mont-Blanc, but its off piste may be inadequate for you.

I was thinking that the kids might do better in Galtur as it is quieter with really good beginners slopes.
