Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Now I understand why they ran up the mountain in the first place

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Funny you should say that but we were given an absolute grilling by Swiss customs officers when driving to Geneva recently (and we thought they liked their meat on the rare side)!

Apologies for the many grammatical and technical errors on my posts in this thread (I've tried to correct them but am sure there are some remaining) - I'll fess up to being a bit hungover, which just added to the surreality of looking out your window and watching cows being delivered by helicopter!

There has been a few posts on the forum recently about the Swiss customs officers getting a bit over zealous recently - pinging on the rubber gloves wherever possible - hence my post....

Loosely farmyard related, there's a little bar at the bottom of the other side of Mt Chery in Les Gets where the owner puts a rooster on a crate to advertise his lunch - poulet et frites, E14. I'm trying to see if I can find the photo, but I think it's on my phone where I can't access it.

He also has a dog that's trained to bark/growl and chase snowboarders. Likes skiiers though.

Many years ago I saw an inflatable sea horse balloon, miles from any piste, whilst on a day-tour in the Espace-Killy area

Very surreal

@wadgebeast, ha, that is an interesting adverting strategy!

A little update for anyone who might also have been wondering what on earth those cows were doing up there at this time of year…. apparently some dogs belonging to holidaymakers chased the herd during the autumn and the cows were dispersed along the ridge. Most of them were gathered up again before the first snow came (although sadly a couple were chased off the rocks and died) but a few remained up there and became "wild". So then they had to wait until they were in a position to get them (presumably easier once the conditions meant they could no longer peg it) and yesterday was the day...

@Hyst, ha I'd forgotten that picture but had seen it before. Of course your primary instinct is survival but, once you're safe, to realise your back bottom was hanging out for everyone to see… whilst your rescuers had to get up close and personal… Embarassed

I'd actually completely forgotten until now that it was late ski season a few years ago and we had a friend staying and helping us out as I'd bust my knee in February. We were just having a beer in the bar before heading to bed when OH looked out the window and saw a goat from next door's farm who'd obviously jumped the gate to get out and then realised "oh, this isn't quite as much fun as I thought - it's quite pretty cold out here and all my mates are on the inside" so was bleating to be let back in. We phoned the farmers but no answer, so I dispatched OH and also city-raised friend to go and help the little goat… was very amusing from my vantage point watching them trying to field the goat back into the shed whilst trying to not accidentally free the rest of the herd. I really needed cheering up having not been able to ski from the first of February!

Was in Valfrejus maybe 7 years (staying in Bardonnechia but went for day). My mate and I was stood having a chat near a lift queue when we heard a shout. A snowboarder was hanging upside down from a chairlift by his one attached leg. He had gone only maybe 10-15m from the bottom of the lift. After the attendant had finished having a right good laugh at him, they radioed for someone to bring a set of stepladders, which they did, in no rush! The poor lad must have been dangling for 15mins! Pretty funny really, once we realised he was stuck fast and not good to hurt much more than his pride!
