Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

May be skiing on a few of the glaciers in Europe. LDA glacier is open for a week - depends on your half term. Couple of glaciers in Austria bound to be open.

I've skied with Mountainsun in Tignes several times in half term. It's fun, clean and comfortable, but not luxurious. It depends on how you define "special." Is there still snow in Chile in October?

To be honest we might just have an Official 50th on a different but more sensible travel/ski date Smile

Zermatt. Good skiing and the best apres ski in the world at that time of year.

Zermatt will have the only guaranteed skiing at that time of year.

Hintertux a good backup option.

Or go to New Zealand and catch some Spring skiing at the close of their season.

Hintertux will be open as will the Sölden Rettenbach Glacier at least maybe both, it just depends when in October the birthday is. It could be that all the Tirol glaciers are open by then as well. The weekend of the 22/23rd October and the week leading up to that will have the world's elite up on the Rettenbach for the season opener of the World Cup! Now that is always a fun week and weekend, I've got my accommodation booked already snowHead

sev112,
You cannot get any more sensible than a birthday/ski combo!

We've skied October half term about 15 times in the past 20 years and never been disappointed. We go to the Austrian Tyrol and usually ski Hintertux and/or Stubai glaciers, although last year we skied at those two plus Pitztal, Kaunertal and Solden.

It's a great way to get some pre-winter turns in and definitely worth a long weekend for a birthday trip. Very Happy Very Happy

Go on. You know it makes sense!

Do a race carve course with Snoworks in Tignes! Everybody needs to try some gates at some point (apologies if you are an ex-national team skier or something...).

+1 for Stubai. Had excellent week there in October, stayed in Neustift which has some nice restaurants and bars
