Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Most of the Austrian resorts ive been to seem to have a Cartel running the hire shops but we normal find at least one shop as theres 10 in our group that will do a deal.

Last year in St Anton it was Hervis

Are there any such places in Ischgl preferably near the Silvrettabahn lift

thanks

@wasley, St Anton (+Lech, Zurs etc) and Ischgl have the highest prices in terms of ski hire in the whole of Austria pretty much. My best piece of advice would be to rent them from nearby Kappl where hire is significantly cheaper - saving as much if not more than 50 euro per set of skis and boots hired.

Use alpinresorts.com - with the code SNOWBALL for the best deal - the cheapest in Ischgl itself for standard piste skis and boots was around 150 euros whilst in Kappl its 98 euro.

I would say an average price for standard piste skis and boots would be 65-90 euros for a week in most of Austria just shows how much they rip you off there. This is all based on 6 days hire - Sunday to Friday.

EDIT: What I will say the service and quality of equipment is very very high in Ischgl - and whilst it's great saving money on ski hire with Hervis for example, the service I've had from them in the past when having issues with mine and my OH's equipment was awful and left me cursing myself all for the sake of saving 30-40 euro on something that can make or break your holiday enjoyment.

I would get a series of quotes off the net and then call them directly or contact them via email seeing if they can beat your quotes if Kappl is not an option.

I went to the InterSport (is it Brudhel??) just up from the Silvretta towards the tunnel at xmas and hired boots for my kids, the service was fantastic, really cheap as well, but that's for kids

I read somewhere on Snowheads that St Anton shops had paid a heavy fine for price fixing. has that not helped?

@wasley, As I posted in the other Ischgl thread "Dunno bout cartel but there is a hire shop underneath the Silvrettabahn and Alpinresorts hire shop behind the Silvrettabahn. We hired on line from Alpinresorts shop. Cost about £93 for top of the range skis for one week. Got a good service and the equipment was good quality."

We pre-booked using the code above for 6 days Sunday to Friday. We turned up at the shop at about 12:30pm on the Saturday and picked up our skis so we effectively had half a day ski hire for nowt Toofy Grin

ps if you do use the discount code then you could chuck some money in to snowHead s wink

Seems to be a bit more competition than there used to be. You could try Skiset who use Sport Zangerl - discount code CUK12SES. The shop is by the entrance to the Dorf tunnel.

@wasley, We're going to rent in Kappl as it works out being almost half the price of Ischgl, where decent Ski, boots, and helmets will cost >€200 for the week.

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

We've just been to Kappl and hired skis through alpinresorts - we weren't particularly impressed with the quality of the equipment. And they had very limited stock.

 You know it makes sense.

We hired with Sport Adler could of got 18% off with alpinresorts but didn't pre book

There were 10 of us so was hopeing for a similar or better discount . No one would give us more than 10% , we managed to get 13% with Sports Adler

It nearly double to what I've paid in most other resorts including St Anton

Food , lift pass , drinks have all been reasonable priced thou
