Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Driving To Chamonix

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi All,
Me and my partner are driving down to Chamonix for a week of skiing in Feb. On the website I booked it mentioned there was free parking a short walk from the hotel, however, on asking them where this is, they have suggested Grepon, which appears is not free, but is 13.50euro per 24hour period!

Does anyone have any idea where is a good place I can park the car, ideally for free (or for very little money), I have no interest in using it whilst I'm in Chamonix, the buses are perfectly adequate. So I don't mind if it's a fair walk (or a short bus ride) from the hotel, so long as it's safe to leave it for a week unattended.

Thanks.

@junglist_matty, no, week's parking if you are in a registered accom is €38.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

We are staying at the UCPA, it's probably not a "registered accom"; how can I find out for sure?
Thanks

Ask them? I would expect UCPA to be well and truly registered!

@junglist_matty, post on the Chamonix picnickers thread. There are a couple of snowHeads in Cham for the season whose accommodation comes with parking but who don't have cars. One of them may kindly offer you their parking spot in exchange for a few ales Very Happy

there's a few free parking places around the UCPA but you may have to walk for 5 minutes, I wouldn't worry about it too much, just drop your stuff and have a drive around looking for a spot

Thanks @Sub_Zero_G,

useful to keep in mind @eddiethebus, I'm not fussed about leaving my car a reasonable distance from the UCPA so long as I know it will be safe to leave unattended for the week (i.e. won't be towed away or ticketed)

there's plenty of spaces, the only issue you'll have are most of them will be the opposite end of the one way road you drive into to get to UCPA so you'll have to drive back around. Cham's not a big place though so anywhere will pretty much do.

best bet would be to try the parking on chemin du sapi before you go under the bridge towards UCPA, there's quite a few spaces along that road.

@eddiethebus, you mean, surely, the rue du Lyret?

There isn't a chemin du sapin, as far as I know...

no, Sapi, there's a few spaces on Lyret outside UCPA but there's more on Sapi, its the road along the side of the river with the hotel morgan on the end at the cross road. there's two small parking area's along it and more over the cross roads on marie paradis opposite the entrance to cham sud by monkey...
