Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I've have just looked at basic ski helmets and can't see much difference between them and a cycling helmet ?

Am I correct ?

@DaiSki, Have you also checked the standards, I'd suggest that there are likely differing manufacturing standards that both sports adhere to.

One noticeable difference it that if using a cycling helmet then your ears might get a bit cold, ski helmets are much warmer and have open/ closeable vents, and ear coverage wink

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I didn't take much notice of the ear section, that would explain it.

Thanks

Yes cycling helmets are designed for maximum ventilation. Use one as intended on a summer day and you will find out why.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Yes, apart from maybe the aero ones for TT, you'll find using a cycling helmet on the slopes a rather chilling experience

I think you'll find that at least one helmet is sold as dual-use: a K2 something or other, sold in 2014-15 at least.

Some dual use helmets exist. Bern's ski and skate/BMX lids are the same. They deal with the cold ears thing with the helmet insert - ear coverings for winter, none for summer.

Not designed for huge ventilation in the summer, so they work. Not sure you'd want to use a well-vented road cycling helmet on the pistes...

Some of the POC Helmets are multi-sport as well, such as the Receptor range.
