@Nadenoodlee, Does he work for Skiddy? If so have they lost a van? There's been one parked near here for a few days now ...

Sensible people are leaving here in Serre Chevalier today. Just been walking dogs and seen a fair few families packing their cars up.
Think it's going to be carnage tomorrow if the freezing level goes to 1600 as that will make getting over Montgenevre tough.
Think I might well be giving my friends leaving a lesson on putting chains on!

Plenty leaving the 3V early too. Lots of non local number plates heading down the hill all day. And all the local advice is to leave before 9am tomorrow. Local authorities are very keen to avoid the mayhem of last year.

|
|
|
|

But that advice is because of traffic, not snow, surely? And if everyone left before 9 am the jams would just be earlier. My niece and family left today and stay in Calais tonight.

@pam w, it's for both. Heavy snow is expected...

He does indeed @boredsurfin, they have vans and drivers permanently in the tarentaise now but they tend to mostly be weekend drivers so they don't move much during the week.

Left AdH today & had a very easy drive to the Tunnel with some foggy stretches but little traffic. Not possible for everyone but does make the extra £100 for Flexiplus seem like pretty good value when you can change plans with no bother. Good luck to those travelling tomorrow.

There are already queues at Aime and at the Chignin Peage - so it looks like a lot of people are legging it early.

@Nadenoodlee, ah, that explains that then I didn't realise that skiddy operates in these parts, I thought Bensbus had cleaned up after Ski4funtransfers stopped.

About to get up and head to the airport for flight to Geneva, hoping we just have rain for most of the journey, freezing level will be 1400ish so should be just the climb up the mountain that snow becomes an issue.

We left Morillon 24hrs early on Friday to avoid the Saturday rush and weather. Decision was made last minute as when we got up yesterday morning conditions for skiing looked awful so thought why waste a day.
Eurotunnel changed our crossing with no charge which was great. Had great holiday in the GM but glad to be back home. Looking forward to Austria in Feb! Bring on the snow

It's snowing a lot heavier than forecasts here, I suspect we shall soon have had more than snow forecast said for all day. (just for those folk who say it always over-forecasts).
Went out to put car in garage and even with 4 excellent snow tyres was losing traction on the up ramp. The snow at 1550m here is very, very, heavy and claggy. just right for rapidly covering the pistes and getting smacked down by the bashers tonight. Judging by the scene here plenty of drivers ignored advice to get out early, so those who did should have had a clear run down. It's not been snowing for very long.

It's been snowing below Les Allues this afternoon and thankfully most people heeded the warning to leave early. It was a bit messy for arrivals in Meribel mid afternoon with cars sliding around but snowploughs are out in force.
