Poster: A snowHead

Dear all, having never been to the Dolomites, I was wondering about traffic conditions from Bergamo airport to val Gardena. We are looking to arrive on Friday at 5 pm, therefore expect some Milan traffic. Any advice or experiences would be most welcome. Also any tips on eurpecar collection at Bergamo would be appreciated too. Many thanks in anticipation

Have you already booked your flight? It sounds as though you have. I have driven Bergamo to Dolomites without problems but never on a Friday evening. It would be sensible to expect weekend traffic. Verona is a closer airport for future trips

Suprised you found accomodation with a friday arrival. As its peak time, most accomodation is Saturday to Saturday or Sunday to Sunday. As Saturday is the main transfer day and you'll already be in resort, you should have some quiet pistes!!

JohnHsmith, we would only go Liverpool ideally or in this case Manchester as a second best departure airport. (Thanks for the heads up, with regard to nothing obvious to avoid). -this does limit destination airports, but 90% of our skiing trips are via Geneva, and we have 3 easy jet flights a day from Liverpool to Geneva. Jimmybog, yes I like to fly a day early, staying halfway to Selva at Rivereto on Friday. Take your point re accommodation.

I think from Manchester to Verona will only be one flight a week (but I haven't checked). It is an early flight though

I agree, we always try and fly a day early and stay overnight in Innsbruck. Then gives us all the next day to get to resort via train/bus and time to get ski hire and passes sorted out.

We flew to Venice last year on a Friday & drove up to Rovereto to stay the night. It was a good plan, the hotel was good & extra days skiing on the Saturday. We skied following Sat/Sun too & flew back on Sun night. Nine days skiing in a week, 50% more than a package.

Northerngeezer, did you stay at the Novotel in Revereto by any chance?
If you did, did you eat there or elsewhere?

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Hi, we did stay at the Novotel, we got there late, +10.30pm, we had the breakfast & it was ok. We just bought a sandwich from a garage on the way. Verona or Innsbruck are nearer airports, but the flight times were better to VCE.
