Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Getting from Basel to Grindelwald

 Poster: A snowHead

Just wondering if anyone can suggest the best way of getting 4 people + 1 set of skis and 1 snowboard from Basel to Grindelwald. The train is around £100 each return from what I can work out... just wondering if there is a cheaper way? We are going on 28th January and returning on the 31st, so just a long weekend trip.

Thanks!

Renault Megane estate, rental from Basel Airport Swiss side, £140. Or a Skoda estate, £160.

I'd prefer to go by train, though - scenic and relaxing!

I've done the journey from Basel airport to the Jungfrau resorts using the swiss transfer ticket many times. It currently costs about £85 for the return journey from any swiss airport to any swiss resort, so it includes the bus from the airport to Basel station (just make sure you've filled in the date of your outward journey on the ticket before you start your journey from the airport). If you pick the right train at Basel station you can get on a service which goes directly from Basel through to Interlaken Ost, where you change onto the local train to Grindelwald. The SBB website has details of the train times.

As @Alastair Pink & others say the rail transfer tickets are excellent, but as there are 4 of you car hire at Basel is very cheap.

Depends on ages, as @trickygibbon, said if any are under 16 they can go free accompanied by a swiss transfer ticket holder but you need to fill out the transfer ticket order with the correct number of adults and under 16's at order time, however if there are more than 2 adults in the party car hire is probably the best option, check that your accomodation in Grindelwald has parking though or you will have to add that into the cost
