Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Tragic News from meribel

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
A 17 year old British citizen died in Meribel yesterday after a fall near the snow front on a blue run.

More here from the DM - which, IMHO, spends way too many column inches on the link with Michael Schumacher rather than on the tragedy for this family.

He caught his ski in some of the netting as he entered the Chaudanne area and fell heavily and initial reports are that he broke his neck. Help was on hand immediately. Terrible accident.

Thankfully this type of accident is rare, but is a risk in any sport, be it skiing, cycling, rugby in fact anything where you could hit your head

Very tragic tale, so young. Need to be very careful in these conditions. Accident in Avoriaz PDS today, a ski instructor on a simple blue run, caught an edge and the netting usually held in by packed snow did not stop her falling and breaking collarbone and leg when she hit a rock. Op tomorrow and hopefully out of hospital tomorrow evening, but no work for 3 months.

Echo my sentiments from the 3V thread, extremely sad news. As Boris says it's a risk in all sports (in woman in Devon recently died on the rugby field after sustaining a head injury), but he must have been going at some speed to suffer the reported injuries. A timely reminder about the dangers of icy slopes.

@SnoodyMcFlude, my husband broke his neck on piste in a skiing accident. He was not skiing fast as it was a short crowded section of piste and we'd all stopped briefly to regroup only a few metres before. He thinks he was hit by another skier who could have come from another adjoining piste and hit him in the back, but we aren't certain of that.

It was more the report that the initial injury was to his chest, if that's what was the cause of death then I'd have thought it requires a heavier impact that a head injury. I appreciate that you don't need to be going fast to have a nasty head/back injury, I work in construction so have heard a few nasty tales of people breaking their back when falling from a fairly low height.

Here we go again ....

Another reason to stop grooming slopes.

Another reason to ban Helmets to stop people having this false sense of security.

Career Piste skiera have a false sense of their abilities.

I know this a kid but they need to be taught off piste first , not groomers!!

Dont want to turn this thread into too much of a conversation as its not the right time, but why ''here we go again'' and why should all kids be taught off piste first??!!

There will always be a risk when skiing but it's still a real tragedy when someone dies or get's seriously hurt. My thoughts are with his family and friends who must be very sad at what's happened.

Grow up and show some compassion stanton

This is really sad no matter the circumstances and our thoughts should be with family and friends at this time. With xmas just round the corner this will add extra distress that they do not need. They do not need to potentially read the ranting's of a lone lunatic like Stanton at this time either.

Words can and never will be enough at times like this.

I think that's a silly idea. I deal with death quite a lot, and whilst it's troubling for people who know the victims it's not for the rest of us. I don't think you can sensibly censor the whole internet because of a single death, and some of us at least would not want you to do that. I think you're perhaps confusing social media with reality.

I'm not suggesting censoring the whole internet - just an online forum/community showing some repsect/sensitivity in the days after a tradegy.

How utterly terrible for the family and friends. When all the holes in the cheese line up then people can die in simple accidents. @Hells Bells, had a shocking experience but it could easily have been a tragedy.

Stanton's views are contentious but not offensive, even if they were, opprobrium not censorship would be a more appropriate response. A society in which we all have the right to never be offended would be a dull place.

But could we not have a hat with a big letter "D" on it that goes under your name in the left hand column. It could be awarded weekly to one Stanton ( sorry person) and under the hat is a number to denote how many times you have won the award. snowHead
