Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better!
Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Hi All,
I'm looking to buy my own boots. I have always hired before and I see it's a bit of a minefield. As I just quit my job without a plan yet I'm not sure whether I CAN go this year but I'm thinking a good plan might be to buy boots at
the EOSB
in resort. My thinking is that I may be able to get a bargain with a good £€ exchange rate, end of season stock PLUS have the advantage of being able to take the boots back in for tweeking WHILST I am there. I'm definitely looking to do everything as cheaply as possible as I'm planning on skis too and so I'm hoping for boots (with beds and fitting) for less than £300. Do you think this is a sensible plan or are the resorts just plain expensive because they are resorts?
Any advice gratefully received.
John

@foidster
, It's an entirely reasonable plan but £300 inc beds and fitting might be a little tight depending on the shop's fitting policy - e.g. if fitting is included in the price you should be able to manage it.
Risk of course being that at the end of the season a well managed shop is reasonably likely to have limited stocks and so the optimal boot(s) for your feet might not be available which limits the value if the fitting process.
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Prices are good on any ski kit in the town at
the EoSB
but as
@under a new name
, says stock tends to be limited as the shops are gearing up for summer trade.

Am I right in thinking that's Val Thorens? The Boot Lab in Meribel will be able to sort you out if you can get over; £300 sounds like a decent budget including footbeds with the good exchange rate, but it would depend on shape and flex of the boot, though we wouldn't put you in something that didn't work just because of price.
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Come that stage in the year you might even get close to that budget at somewhere like
Snow and Rock
at home but I recognise they are not always the best boot fitters and wont be in resort with you to do the adjustments if needed.
