Steve Angus reported 41 lifts open in the EK. something like 70 runs - and quite a few of those will be on natural, or mostly, natural snow.

Despite the desert like weather the Dolomites have had, whilst parts of the UK drown under record precipitation there are apparently an incredible 445km of runs open and 245 lifts

Yes it probably is. I wouldnt believe it unless I'd witnessed it before. I've skied the Sella Ronda in fairly deep snow whilst the whole of the mountains were green. They can make an unbelievable amount of snow.

We've decided to stick with our original Selva plan. It'll be interesting to ski on a narrow piste with grazing cows to the left and right...!
Thank you to everyone who responded - v helpful and most appreciated. I will report in/back whilst we're there, probably on Tuesday evening.

The snow will be fine as long as it's cold. Corvaras the best- You ski through the golf course on a ribbon whilst they're still playing golf. I kid you not, they chip over your head on to the greens. The most surreal experience of my life.

All good here. My wife and I enjoyed an early season warm-up with some brisk and uninterrupted runs down the Dantercepies reds whilst the kids had their lessons. Great conditions for them - nice temps, good snow on the pistes, uncrowded etc. Views are a bit green and strange, but we skied back to the village without seeing any bare patches, rocks, slush pools or other weather-related hazards.
Not only is it clear that there's been a significant investment in snow making machinery, but also that Selva has the skills and resources to deploy it effectively. Credit is due for this.
Although the Sella Ronda is open in both directions, a fair amount of the terrain is closed so I'm not sure it would be ideal for a week with hard skiing friends. But for a sneaky early season 3-dayer with the family it looks perfect, and we are glad to be here.
We're going to ski the Ciampinoi and Plan de Gralba tomorrow so I'll add to this again in the evening.

We skied on the Ciampinoi/Plan de Gralba pistes this morning. It was really very pleasant. Great conditions underfoot and uncrowded slopes provided ample opportunity for purposeful ski-flexing. My legs know they've skied today. Thoroughly enjoyable.
It did cloud over after lunch and for a short period there was some sort of flakey white pollutant falling from the sky that I thought would interfere with our skiing. Happily, it stopped after a while.

Thanks for posting this. As a physics teacher, I've always wondered how they do it. We skied Corvara at Easter 2012 and there was not a white patch on the mountains yet the pisted were knee deep in snow. It was 21 degrees celsius in the valley. I remember asking a German guy who'd spent the season in our hotel how it was possible he simply replied 'They make an unbelievable amount of snow here'
The pre cooling bit seems interesting.

Those pics look almost magical. Not a snowy winter wonderland but certainly has its own appeal to my eyes!
