Hello Snowheads, First time poster here.
I'm an ex level 3 instructor (CSIA) I love pistes and am happy to ski offpiste from one piste to another but never in the powder. Love carving and short turns, don't mind ice.
Currently got some apache k2 crossfires and nordica 8's, which are well worn out after 2 seasons and a couple of holidays.
My usual ski holiday is a trip with friends for a week, so I'm not going to be thrashing it out, and my teaching days are long gone. My budget is around the £500 mark for a combined total, but will stretch it + 40% or so if you can persuade me of it's value. Currently only able to get advice on latest tech from sales people, and I'm not asking the barber if I need a haircut.

Do you want advice on what to go for or where to shop?
Can't help you with the kit. But shop wise Glisshop, Snowinn, Ekosport are decent places to look. Can take advantage of the favourable exchange rate and if you are quick Black Friday/Cyber Monday offers (we got an extra 15% off a load of kit last night).

Boots, well as an ex instructor I guess you know not to skimp there, go see a good fitter and buy the right ones for your feet. Then you'll have a budget for skis left. I'd add Blue Tomato to list of good European web shops to look at

Given some of the bargains in the classifieds on here I'd pick up skis that way, and blow most of the budget with a decent boot fitter.
I've also had some very good ex demo deals from Tim at kniessl if you want piste skis, for all mountain stuff I'd see what is on offer here secondhand.

ended up with a price match deal from Snow and rock against some european prices, got supershape titans with bindings for £350 and salomon xpro130's for 300, fitted for 50 quid and another 50 for the custom footbed. Seemed good value. (will buy tomorrow unless someone gives me a reason why we should not be lawfully united, man and ski/boot.

He seemed happy to do the EU match, if they didn't then i'll get my gf to buy in germany and bring with her when she comes over.
Will confirm tomorrow when i have my ski socks on me and buy the lot.

Good luck with the SnR fitting, it can be hit and miss! The ones at the fridges tend to be better but some of the high street ones are clueless.

@davkt, Agreed - The lads at Sheffield ski village used to be good too, don't know where they ended up, initially went to Manchester but last time I was in the Didsbury and Chillfactore stores I didn't see them.

I'd imagine the £300 is the price match against a European supplier that wouldn't have come fitted. It seems fair enough that they charge a fitting fee on top.

Ahh I see, that makes a lot more sense but I'd still be interested what the £50 gives you other than "You want a pair in Mondo 26.5, let me go and get them from the back sir/madam"

Final Result:
Supershape Titan's: £350 price matched against german website
Salomon X pro 130's - "250, price matched against austria website
Customised footbeds £67
Salomon Hacker 125 poles (orange and black), 42.50, price matched against UK website
They charged £50 for the boot fitting, I had the inners customised (heated etc). for some damn nicely fitting boots.
Can't fault the service in their Covent Garden store.
