Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Looking good heading into December.
Remember its unusual for Glencoe to open before christmas because it needs a decent base to cover all that rock. However freeze thaw looks the order of this week, which is ideal. snowHead

That wee blip on tues/wed where it gets milder for a bit should just make the base that is building up pretty robust, a few more weeks of these cycles and it's game on - 18th December for the Coe opening is my guess.

What looked like predicted snow a few days ago has fallen as heavy rain today. Just a few degrees too warm.

Starting to look like the Scottish resorts may struggle to open for the busy Christmas period.

really?? It only takes a night of two of snow with the all important wind to drift the snow in behind the fences to get the centres open. It is only early December - way too early to forecast what will happen in 3 weeks time!

Any update on the FRB re-opening Puzzled

We regularly travel 300 miles to Cairngorm. According to Google maps, the detour's not as bad as I feared - it's saying it's only an extra 18 miles.

Re bridges if you're driving up early in the morning on a weekend day I don't think there would be a problem at Kincardine or Clackmannanshire bridges it's just rush hours.

Let's hope the frb is fixed for new year though.

Just on bus from Dunfermline to Glasgow- it's actually getting there quicker than normal and hardly anyone on it Very Happy

Eg form Newcastle
A1 to Edinburgh, up to Stirling then perth then Aviemore.
Via A1 and A9
271.8 miles (show in km)
4 hrs 59 mins

or A66 or A69 to M74, M73, Stirling to Perth to Aviemore.

Eg form Newcastle
Via A69 and A74(M)
284.8 miles (show in km)
5 hrs 10 mins

I can guarantee you that the A69 and M74 will be a lot quicker because of traffic and your average speed.

I've just driven back from Edinburgh Airport to East Lothian. It was 14c most of the way home and only dropped to 13c as I pulled in to my drive. It's the middle of December FFS! Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad I'm beginning to think about getting my summer wheels/tyres put back on. Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

Cancelled the weekend I had planned in Aviemore for 2nd and 3rd of January as there is no way there is going to be anything worth skiing. I'd be amazed if there is anything by mid-January. Sad Sad Sad Sad

Met office is saying heavy snow at Cairngorm summit all day Sunday, Monday and Tuesday! Rain at the base station though.

However MWIS not predicting much and I'd tend to go with them and their forecast says- "Although a long way off, a few days after Christmas, there may be a couple of colder less windy days, followed by another period of anomalously high temperatures on the mountains - and thus low expectation of consolidation of snow for winter activities."

I'm trying to cling on to a glimmer of hope that I'll be skiing New Year week! But think i'd better get the biking stuff ready Sad

Such a shame, was planning a week long play in the mountains from Boxing Day, even if the forecast for the weekend onwards plays ball I don't suppose they will open with no base, but not giving up hope yet and will be putting my board in the van just in case, come on snow gods, make my 10ish hour drive worth while.

Glencoe was almost ready to open last weekend, but a week of melt has clobbered the snow.
