Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Is there a better boot than my Strolz ?

@CEM's Incorrect information regarding Strolz Ski Boots
To make a statement about a product that you have never fitted is misleading and inaccurate. The only reason I can possibly think of for you making spurious comments is that this is some form of sour grapes. I do know that you approached Strolz to purchase some of their lasts but they would not sell them to you.

@strolz, so then, tell us all about it, and for the record i did not approach strolz to buy lasts, it was suggested that we could approach them, but we didn't go that route so please get your facts straight.

the information i have is based on what information i was given by a stockist in Austria, so please tell me and others what is correct /incorrect and we can go from there,i am only dealing with the people who have a problem with them, those who are happy with the boot wouldn't' be seeking an alternative Little Angel

I take your remarks of only buying Strolz from the shop in Lech as a direct attack against my business, as I am the only supplier of Strolz in the UK

@strolz, So perhaps you might positively assert that you carry the full last and cuff range of Strolz boots so no confusion can arise between your business and the lesser Austrian Strolz dealers outside the Arlberg/Vorarlberg.

Otherwise it just looks like you are engaged in some private squabble played out in public which doesn't look great for your brand

@erica2004, @strolz, @CEM, I can confirm that it was me who sent my friend to CEM because she had the issue with her Strolz boots — just as CEM has described.

Her boots had been purchased from an Intersport in Austria, that only supplies Strolz boots off-the-shelf and does not stock the full range by far. The boots had been incorrectly selected and fitted (by some young seasonal worker); they were far too wide and the foam had pushed-up the footbed. My friend is a very good skier, and suddenly found herself on her edges the whole time. She is presently in the process of getting a refund from Intersport.

As a side note, she said that having the foam fitting was more painful then giving birth!

CEM told me the problem she was having BEFORE she even visited him, as he has seen this issue with the fitting of Strolz boots so many times. Now he has sorted her out with a great pair of boots, and according to her, he spent ages tooling her new footbeds to get them just right. She will be hitting the slopes in December — so I'll let you know how she got on.

Not only that, but CEM felt that she did not need an very expensive pair of boots; and also that in her case, she did not need the further expense of custom liners as the boots were fitting very well, and warmth was very important to her, so the thermal liners that came with the boots were on balance best. CEM is very good at also assessing the real, practical needs of the human in front of him; not just the strictly technical aspects. 75% of boot shops just want to up-sell you as much a possible and get you out of the door as quick as possible.

My friend was super-keen to see CEM, as she had seen such an improvement in my skiing due to the great boots, footbeds and liners CEM had selected for me in 2014. In 2015 I returned to CEM because I had a pressure point from the boots on my lower foot; and he identified the issue at once, and even told me the nerve that was being pressured. Then he spent a good 40 minutes fixing the issue and didn't charge me a penny.

TL;DR: The fitter and his/her knowledge and experience is everything. The actual make of boot is secondary. And Strolz don't have anything a good fitter with a good range of boots and sizes doesn't have. But to be clear: if you have the right pair of Strolz boots, fitted correctly, you will be happy I'm sure.

for the record at Glide n Slide we carry the full range of Strolz shells, cuffs and liners in different heights widths and sizes. A full range of wooden lasts, varying strengths of foam pack , canting equipment and footbeds. Also a full range of spares. We are updated every year by Strolz , so you will receive the same high quality product and fitting as you would from Strolz in Lech

@strolz, so why didn't you just say that in your first post, and in a nicer manner?

I'd now be put off visiting glide n slide, as I'd be expecting a surly and quicktempered bootfitter based on your last few posts (which is hopefully far from the truth).

CEM is held in high regard here - if you'd popped in with a slightly nicer message along the lines of:
'Hi, just a quick correction from us over at Glide n Slide - we do have the full range in our store, and update every year with the team in Lech. CEM if you're ever in the area feel free to pop in for a look and a chat - always good to discuss the latest developments with a fellow professional.

OP here are my thoughts and what we could do for you if you want to pop by...'

Well then you'd probably have left us all with a good impression of you, while still getting your correct information across.

[My interest in this: I've just recently got a new pair of boots from CEM 's shop (fitted by Andy), and despite me being a little awkward (girl, wanting stiff tech boots, wide forefoot, narrow heel, damaged ankles), I now have an exceptional solution, I could not be more pleased or impressed.]

@fixx, while I agree that some people here are not doing themselves any favours, I can assure you that this is not the case at all. The shop is really friendly and I think some people just come across better in person than online.

(No business involvement from me, but after having my boots fitted and tweaked in there, I've spent quite a number of hours in the shop)

@Scarlet, very glad to hear that!

I agree it can be very hard to come across how you want or expect online - but I would expect a professional or business to take a little more care with their presence/reputation on a specialist and public forum.

I'm very surprised to hear Strolz boots are available 'off the shelf' at an average/mediocre shop employing part time students labelled as 'boot fitters'... and if I was the person @strolz Glide n Slide, I'd be havng some words with the people at Strolz - what on earth are they doing wrecking their reputation by selling their custom boots out of an Intersport shop withut proper peole and equipment/stock?

I totally agree and he went massively out of his way opening the shop early to sort out my paddles, various lumps, growths, broken and displaced bones due to skates and puck damage. Never knew what pain free skiing was until I got my strolz, my parents feel the same way although theirs were done in Lech. I didn't know what it was like to keep a ski boot on all day.

I'm sure cem could have done the same thing, but really liked the product when I had a look. The moulded inner was a cut above everything else I'd seen and that sold it to me.

Me too. I was amazed. And my friend was fooled by all the great things she had heard about a proper Strolz boot & fitting. I think they just want to go mass-market. Not enough people willing to make the trip to the real bespoke sites (which I could well imagine is totally worth it).

@erica2004, @strolz, @CEM,@coops1967, Good news, today my friend got an email giving her a full, unconditional refund on her Strolz boots and the fitting charge etc. No arguments. She is going to post the boots to Austria from the UK.

The shop in question that sold the wrong Strolz boots and fitted them badly was Intersport Brundl in Kaprun. I would imagine that as my friend had been to see CEM, and mentioned that in her email, that they took that as a slam-dunk Very Happy

Note that this is NOT a proper Strolz dealer like @strolz. They just have a few Strolz boots, and don't even know how to fit them correctly.

So if you do want a pair of Strolz, then be sure to visit a proper Strolz dealer like @strolz here in the UK; or in Austria. That way, I'm sure you will be very happy.

 You know it makes sense.
You know it makes sense.
Just an addendum - I originally bought my Strolz boots in Obergurgl. I was on holiday in Lech a few weeks later and popped into Strolz in Lech with a minor problem. They looked at my boots and feet then vanished with said boots and replaced the cuffs and made new liners. I am therefore in agreement that not all Strolz boot fitters are great Strolz boot fitters. I can't comment on Glide and Slide as they have made no comment regarding my issue Toofy Grin
