Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ski/Boot Hire - Lauterbrunnen Area

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi all

We have been quoted approx £180 for Ski's and boots for a weeks (27th. Feb) skiing by our tour operator. Does that seem a reasonable price? Any recommendstions of local hire shops that you've used in the past... ?

Cheers

@Spike107, There is an Intersport (I think) in village. Maybe they'll have a website? Otherwise, there is a Swiss directory local.ch where you could see what other shops there might be.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Thats roughly intersport prices (give or take a couple of quid) for 6 days of basic ski, boot and stick hire, most of the hire places in the area are intersport and they charge the same price

Alpia Sport / Intersport in Lauterbrunnen is quite limited in terms of range (think its the only rental in the main village). . .better to hire in Wengen where there are loads more model options for the same/better price . . .SkiSet in Wengen is run by a very helpful English couple - further discount with SCGB I think . . .?

Not sure I'd be so very bothered to have to traipse up to Wengen on morning 1 and afternoon last for ski hire, myself.

If skiing in Wengen, there are shops on route from the station to the Mannlichen gondola, so not out of your way at all.

Ski hire is expensive there though sadly Sad

@Ray Zorro, that's a fair point, both of them.

@Spike107, I have hired XCkit from Alpia twice - in each case it was new and well maintained. It is Switzerland after all...

Hardly a chore, seeing that your passing that way on the train for the majority of the time anyway . . .Some of the stores include overnight heated storage - saves traipsing back through Lauter with skis @ boots . . .

In my experience (Feb this year) Alpia in Lauter were very limited - lots of Elan models and not a lot else . . .
