Hi has anyone got any advice on which ski resorts i could look at for roughly a week's skiing in late Feb 2016 either in france or spain. There are 4 of us, we're catching a ferry from uk and driving down. We drove from Dieppe this summer down to Alicante and got the bug for driving through France and Spain, we spent 10 days visiting family in Spain, 4 days travelling down and 3 days travelling back, so much to see and so much freedom much better than flying so we're looking into spending 5 days or so skiing this Feb but don't want to pay crazy prices as we haven't skied for about 5 years now. When we were skiing i was always more comfortable on the greens or blues but the others made it to reds and blacks. We thought we'd do our own diy ski break, buy the passes and rent equipment when we get there. As depending on how we feel, myself and my husband will probably go day by day whilst the other 2 in our party would probably buy a 5 day pass on the first day. I've been looking at Panticosa, would anyone know if that would be suitable for (i would call myself a beginner) and intermediates? And due to us being 4 adults with 2 of them single men, i'm hoping to find somewhere with a bit of nightlife, nothing too crazy just some music and drinks with some atmosphere? Also looking for an apartment for 4 self catering. Thank you for any help

There are hundreds of suitable resorts in France. But late February will be busy in France - school hols. Italy would be my choice for that time.

@cathyalltwen, It's probably worth contacting one of the snowheads based in the Pyrenees for a better response, most of the people on snowheads are based in the Alps and don't have much of an idea about the resorts in the Pyrenees, they aren't as busy or commercialised as the Alpine resorts .

I know advertising isn't really allowed however Bagneres de Luchon is right on the border with Spain (only 9km), it has its own ski resort of Luchon-Superbagneres with great intermediate and beginners skiing plus there is the benefit of being close to Peyragudes and also only 40 to 60 minutes away from Baqueira Beret. Luchon is a fully functioning town with a wide range of bars, restaurants and shops as well as thermal baths.

Panticosa is a very nice place - I learned to ski there many years ago - thy used to heard the goats down the street back then. It has expanded quite a bit since, but yes it would be suitable. Another suggestion would be Luz Ardiden on the French side. The resort itself is purpose build, but the village below historic. Lots of nice confidence building runs.

If you are driving from Dieppe to the Pyrenees, a day or two at a Massif Central ski station wouldn't be much of a detour. Mont Dore is a beautiful spa town as well as ski place.
