Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Possible late notice trip, going solo

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
There is a possibility (not a probability at the minute) that I will be able to sneak off for a week's skiing sometime this season at short notice. Would be Europe, somewhere suitable for a blue-red run skier who is OK (Just above a 6 on the Inside Out scale). I'd probably want some lessons (or is it coaching?) of some sort. Not fussed about country at all. Would take what I could get.

Anyone got any advice for arranging such trips? Merely a case of calling TOs/whomever last minute to find best price/deal? Club Med may be a sensible option - it's not cheap but seem to cater for a lot of solo skiers (well, there were lots of solo skiers when I went to LDA a few years ago).

If you search you will find a number of threads giving advice. I have rung around the big TO's a few days before going with good success. If you can get a chalet you are more likely to find someone to ski with than in a hotel. Out of peak season lessons should be easy to arrange.

Provided you're not peak week you can probably call a TO on a Friday and see if they'll cut you a no single supplement deal on a chalet. Always people to meet and ski with in a chalet.

Otherwise if there is a bash on there always tends to be a last week drop out.

I once went with Friendship Travel and it was a great holiday. Lot's of other skiers of all ages and abilities who were skiing as a single, mainly because their partners could not or were not available to ski. They book up but often last minute deals if you get on their mailing list. They have a good website and the promotional video they were making while we were there, shows nearly all of us in it. Well worth a look. The only reason I have not been back is I go with two ski clubs and friends.

The website is here http://www.friendshiptravel.com/ski-and-snowboard.html

@dobby, come to our area of Ski amadé - nobody is alone too long and solo skiers don't pay extra for single rooms if you know the right people and places! wink Cheap flights to Salzburg and 45 minutes down the motorway. Plus loads of us around to ski with, getting a ski on your own is often the problem! Laughing Laughing Laughing

@dobby, depending on your age, you might find UCPA worth a look. Not tried it yet, but we're heading out with them on boxing day for a week - seems to be pretty social, has coaching at very cheap rates, caters for singles and groups (plus with group lessons there will always be someone to ski/socialise with) and feedback from others was good enough for me to sign up.
