Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Courchevel 1550 in April...

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi all

A friend has booked a small and rather cheap apartment in Courchevel 1550 for a week in April - it's called les Grangettes, I think.

Unfortunately we won't be able to fit our family of 2 adults and 4 kids (aged 8-13) into one of those small studio apartments. Can anyone recommend a reasonable budget apartment or chalet sleeping a genuine six people, in C1550?

Also, I'm a little nervous about going in April (2nd to 9th). I've been to Val Thorens at Easter a few times (and the EoSB once) and there's always been snow but not a huge amount at lower levels. Anyone got any experience here?

Cheers

Tom

Snow will almost certainly be fine tomj - We've skied late April/final days of the season in the Courchevel/Meribel valleys two or three times - up to 2-3 weeks after your visit.

Snow will be spring-like lower down but you will undoubtedly be able to ski back down to Courchevel 1550 and La Praz/La Tania at about 1300/1400m. In fact the shady tree lined pistes to La Tania etc normally hold up very well and offer great April/late season skiing.

Higher up will be full cover, with everything from powder (if you are lucky)/packed powder to hardpack, mush and slush - depending on orientation.

You'll have a great time Very Happy

@tomj,

Just have a look at owners direct. We have advertised our VT appartment on there for many years now. One tip. Try to engage with the owner over email or the phone a few times just to build up a bit of trust before you commit. Do they respond quickly to questions? Do they know the area well? etc.

Owners direct now do credit card payments which should protect you, we are using it for the first time this year to see how well it operates.

Twill be fine. Courchevel is North facing so great for snow holding and, on the times I've been, the snow as always been as good as VT. I've always felt orientation is more important than simply altitude.

It was pretty decent when we were there first week of April this year. Good in the morning and yes it was slushy by the afternoon most days but skiable. If not only a short download in the gondola from 1850. I'd recommend it much better value than 1800

Thanks chaps, all very helpful.

I'm convinced, so will be crack on with organising a trip. That new pool complex looks like it might be a fun afternoon for the children, too.

Good decision. Even if the snow is slush, or even green fields, lower down, the ski area will be fine further up and everything should still be open across the 3 valleys.

Stayed in 1550 last April - We arrived Easter Sunday. It was great the whole week. Fab snow above 1850, amazing weather. Yes a bit slushy in the afternoon, but still skiable.
