Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Tuition in Val d'Isere

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I am taking a mixed ability group to Val d'Isere in April. Two of the group are second weekers.
Can anybody recommend any of the ski schools for private lessons for these two?

Thanks

Hawkeye, Welcome to snowHeads.

Friends of mine are going to Val d'Isere in a couple of weeks & are also interested in tuition options, especially non ESF?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Two people in our Val d'Isere chalet for Christmas week went with Evolution 2. Both were ladies about 30, but I am a poor judge of ladies ages as most claim to be 21.

The never-skied-before had a great time and was keen to book another skiing holiday. However on the first day her group had 13 people and so they spend too much time just standing and waiting for the others to do their thing.

The skied-two-or-three-weeks-before was less happy. She wanted green runs but the group had people of a wide range of abilities including some happy on black runs. Additionally these was little or no feed back from the teacher to the slower skiers.

In both cases talking to the ski school after the lesson improved the situation. Preiously I had only heard good things of E-2's group lessons so I would imagine that this is just an early in the season glitch. However, it may be worth asking the ski school that you choose about group sizes and ability ranges in the groups.

If you are going with a tour company then there is merit in using their favourite ski school. The tour company rep should be on your side if there are any issues and the ski school will be keen on getting the repeat business from that ski school.

Alpine Experience have a great reputation although I haven't used them for lessons, just guiding as a couple of the guides are very good friends of a chum of mine.

Likewise, Top Ski have a top reputation.

Both seem to specialise in higher end teaching, off piste etc., but I'd certainly contact them and see what they suggest. I don't believe either will take on anything that they can't handle professionally and well. Too much goodwill at stake. You can find Alpine Experience in Jean Sports just up from the main square.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Hawkeye, welcome to snowheads

my wife had some private lessons with the guys at the Development Centre, they used to have a desk in Precision skis big shop on the main street, not sure if their office is still there or somewhere else, they specialise in improving performance with either small groups or private sessions and the effects were very noticeable (my wife had skied 6 weeks or so prior to this session) but there is no reason why a two week skier cannot get similar results

the other one worth looking at is evolution 2
