Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Christmas Day in St. Anton

 Poster: A snowHead

Does anyone have any restaurant recommendations for Christmas day in St. Anton? Will anywhere be open and would it only be for lunch or also evenings? First time spending Christmas in a ski resort so any tips appreciated!

Thanks.

@debeers, The big meal in St Anton (as in Austrian towns/ villages) is evening of 24th, its generally a very smart event with multiple courses, they dress the tree and it's a real family event. Our Christmas Day is a normal day so you'll likely be able to get into most places, we ski all day on 25th (super quiet day) and eat in the evening.

I know loads of places and can maybe recommend. but would need to know what you are after, eg; are you a family/ couple, want a trendy type place with music, or a hotel type environment?

Thanks Mark, it will be family affair, wife, child, grandmother, open for whatever really. We have eaten in the Museum before, that would be cool I guess, but somewhere more modern would also be nice.

@debeers, if you are eating out, then make your reservation as soon as possible as most people are looking to book a special meal after skiing Christmas Day. You are more likely to get what you want if you can make the reservation as soon as possible. As the others say, Christmas Day is not as big a day in Austria in terms of the seasonal celebrations, it is the day a lot of people travel to the resort having spent Heilig Abend with the family and exchanging presents then. If you want to eat out on Christmas Eve, you will definitely need to make a reservation as many places close up early to let the workers go home to their families.

I've spent every Christmas for the past 30 or 40 years in the Alps with a couple of sad exceptions where I was forced to remain in the UK. After the last time I swore never, ever again, so for the past 20+ years I've made sure I'm in the mountains skiing. Living here now, makes it much easier of course! Toofy Grin

Echo what has been said above, it's Christmas Eve that's harder to get anywhere (very few places open) than Christmas Day. Any places that I would recommend are already listed by Markymark above. FWIW, we spent Christmas Day one year snowboarding then after a bit of Après calling in at the various bars that we knew people working to wish them happy Christmas we had "Christmas Dinner" at Pommodoros....

I would echo the previous comments about Xmas Eve being the main Austrian celebration day, you'll find that the shops close early on that day and you'll definitely need to reserve a table to eat on Xmas Eve, also recommend doing that for Xmas Day.

This thread has some useful recommendations on bars and eating places in town: http://snowheads.com/ski-forum/viewtopic.php?t=95892

@Markymark29, will be there from the 27th Dec for a couple of weeks. Be good to ski together again. Did Dan get his skis repaired after his tumbles?

We went to the Sonnbichl in St Jakob for Christmas Day night and New Years Eve a couple of years ago. Would highly recommend. Very Christmassy feel to it and a lovely place to go if it's your first time in the mountains that time of year. Only a short taxi ride from St Anton.

Hi. Could I ask the same question about New Year's Eve please? Will be there with my wife and 2 teenage kids - looking for something lively and decent food (but not too lively i.e. KK etc).
