Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Oldies & Teens Skiwelt

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
This will be our first family ski trip without the two oldest kids so looking for advice to help our 16 year old get most from trip.

Hubby & I are happy on long blues with a few reds thrown in. 14 year old will be happy to tag along with us. But 16 year old will miss his two older siblings this year. He didn't ski last time as we had both ACLs repaired last year. He is a handy skier and will ski mainly reds at a lot quicker pace than us oldies. Think he will get bored skiing with the oldies and don't really want to see him skiing most of the week on his own.

Just wondering could I sign him up for ski school for his level or would there be another option like a guide/group.

Thank you

@2waterford, you don't say where you are staying, whether you are using a tour op, or when you are going.

Skiwelt can be confusing for those new to it, as the piste map is not the best ! So joining a group would be worthwhile, either a tour op guided one or using a ski school. However, I often travel on my own, and usually find others of similar ability to ski with, within a day or two. Also, a fair number of snowheads go to Skiwelt, and you might be able to meet up with them.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Very hard to generallise as every family and individual is different but have you thought about asking him? If nothing else you might get some points for seeing/treating him as an adult rather than a child and make him responsible for deciding what he does - subject to negotiation Smile

Staying in Brixen 23rd January, doing DIY and staying in an apartment so won't have the opportunity of meeting others in the hotel etc.

hubby and I did ski in Skiwelt this year, staying in westendorf but I didn't actually like the Skiing in Westendorf so we used get to bus to the Brixen each morning. Only skied as far as Scheffau this year but hoping to go as far as Ellmau next time and maybe even as far as Kirchberg.

Was thinking maybe if he skied with us first day to get his bearings and then maybe a few days group lessons.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

@2waterford, our Jnr is 14 and does group lessons every few holidays. There has always tended to be a decent group wherever we've been for him to ski with at his level and he has had fun. However, we've always gone during school hols, so there have been plenty of youngsters about.

Thinking about it last time we all had group lessons we had 16/17 year olds in our group. Day 1 our technique was much better than there's, by day 3 it felt like my legs were about to fall off we just kept going and going!
