Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ski schools Ischgl

Poster: A snowHead
can anyone recommend ski schools in Ischgl, I need a school that will provide instructors on a private lesson basis simultaneously for 1) me and my wife (intermediate) 2) my kids 10 and 14 (advanced juniors) When I checked the Ischgl website there only seemed to be one major school doing lessons - Schneesportakademie ??

I don't know the ski schools there, but I can't imagine any school will have a problem finding you two instructors for private lessons!

Although only one ski school in Ischgl it is possible to use others. When we first visited the area en famille we stayed in Samnaun.
The kids had great lessons we went bask quite a few times staying in Kappl but skiing from the Ischgl side of the mountain. We stuck with the Samnaum ski school which was cheaper and good quality though it involved skiing over to Samnaun each morning. The meeting place though is the top of the cable car.
I would certainly recommend the ski school though I don't know if it would still be cheaper with the strength of the franc and it is a bit of a treck .

Not used it but I believe Ischgl's ski school has a good reputation.

Only one, in such a major resort? Even my tiny one has two and a couple of independents, too.

@pam w
@Corky
It is due to the unique way that Ischgl is run.

@T Bar
Skiing to Samnaun each morning is fine until the weather changes and the top lifts do not open.

@notnats
It would be best to book instructors in advance, you can do this online if you wish.

Used to be the same in St Anton too, but more smaller outfits there now in addition to the main one.

Fair point but from our point of view we knew the instructors well and would have phoned and cancelled but over the six or so years we were lucky and they opened every day, even in fairly poor weather.

@pam w, Not far from the truth. Ischgl is run for Ischgl by Ischgl people. Dominated by a few, powerful families. Put it like this. You have an apartment in a French resort. I wouldn't fancy your chances if you wanted to sell up and buy one in Ischgl.

Dominated by a few, powerful families... Are we still talking about Ischgl or are we talking about Morzine now?

@Corky I don't know if Ischgl is about a mafia owning everything (though accept it could be) or just about the town being run for the people who live there. Sure they probably could let the town spread up and down the valley, throw up loads of cheap appartment building and make loads of money for the land owners but would it make it a better place for residents to live the 9 months of the year outside the core ski season...? It certainly wouldn't make it a better ski resort - the compact/walk end-to-end in 15 minutes nature is one of Ischgl's plus points.

Regardless what's wrong with a mafia who go around replacing what in any other resort would be perfectly good chair lifts with ones with heated seats! Wink

@Mjit, Don't get me wrong. I like it the way it is. I like the way it is run. They look after their own which is the way it should be.
