Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Saas Fee LAte november-Typical extent?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Looking at doing one of the "Ski Test" all inclusive packages in saas fee late november as a pre-season warm up. Was just wondering if anyone has experience of the area at that time of year and how much is typically open (accepting that there is obviously significant variation due to being totally reliant on early snowfalls). Is it just the summer glacier area or could the runs to langfluh, morenia etc be open by then?

Cheers,

James

Depending on the conditions it is quite possible that the runs to Morenia would be open but Langfluh normally opens later.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

It all depends on the temperature as they have extensive snowmaking from Morenia downwards. You might be able to get to Langfluh across the glacier, but not be able to ski down, so it would be the 15 minute T bar back up again. I suspect all the ski testing would be based at the top though.

Back in the days when snow was reliable, there used to be a button lift back to the Felskinn tunnel, so you could do loops via the Metro. But that was in the days before the Alpin Express.

On Monday day there was 30cm of fresh powder up top, so you could get lucky and get decent coverage.
