Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Sports clothing and other knicknack retaler Quiksilver has filed for Ch.11 bankrupcy protection in the USA.

Apparently Quiksilver haven't turned a profit for 8 years or so. Hopefully this won't affect their sponsorship programmes too much - Most of the womens UK ski and snowboard team members are sponsored by Roxy these days.

Interesting. I'd guess like TNF etc these are brands which are more regularly bought and sold than we may think.

Indeed - Quik sold off Mervin Manufacturing and its subsidiary brands a couple of years ago; so Gnu, Lib Tech and Bent Metal aren't affected. Mervin are still putting together Roxy branded boards these days too, but the Roxy brand stayed with Quiksilver.

Interestingly the company taking over did a similar thing with Billabong not that long ago... And two directors of Billabong had to resign a couple of days back (they're with that company - Oaktree Capital Management) due to a conflict of interest. Clearly this is why.

All very interesting - but this is the US Quik rather than the European one. I know DC Shoes were keeping Quik afloat for years (Quik bought it from Ken Block in 2004) but they've equally lost traction in recent years, still feel too many of these brands exist...
