Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

New 'bindings free' snow-surf deck developed by British designers

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
A hybrid snow-skate-surf-ski deck - the Barefoot Board - which involves no bindings, has been developed by a team of surfers, skaters and designers in Cornwall.

The Barefoot Board uses a raised skateboard-style deck and truck combination to steer the fat ski that provides the slide. This is what it looks like, with the team that made it ...

... and how it all links together ...

The Barefoot website has a mass of information and images on the product, with a video:

Anyone seen this product, or tried it yet? [It intrigues me personally, because I imported the first snowboards into the UK back in 1979, which pre-dated any form of binding on the top surface (except a basic hold-down elastic strap). That was the Winterstick.]

I was at MK Xscape when they were showing these off. They were advertising 'barefoot' holidays in La Rosiere I think.

I wasn't impressed at all - none of the guys managed a full run down the slope without falling off. I guess if surfing is your thing it might appeal more...

One of the terms I learned while hanging around with my kids & their friends is 'tumbler' which is someone that falls head first and tumbles down the hill just like Jack. This set up looks ideal for creating tumblers.

Had a chat to them at Olympia - looks fun if you are a skateboarder - would be annoying if you forgot to tie on the cable to your leg - imagine how far you would have to walk to get it! As others have said - might be fun on a perfect piste - but not ideal for mogul filled red/blue busy corners where pistes meet! Might be good fun if price comes down to a level where you could have one for the odd day of fun! I asked if they had any interest from "resort hire shopes" but I think this is their first season - so La Rossiere is the only place to get them???

Seems very similar to the Burton SnowDeck to me (except the ski is bigger). Great fun on a nice, smooth, wide piste - had some fun on one in the Three Valleys back in 2002, think they were about £120.

Video of my mate Nic on one here:
