Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Yesterday at the 620m Amnéville Snowhall in France (close to the borders with Belgium, Luxembourg, Gemany), British speed skier Jan Farrell set a new world record of 104.956 km/h (65.2 mph).

Nevermind the record, Jan. Where'd you get those trousers?

“Jan's go-faster trousers” are now second on my list of Most Wanted Ski Costumes. (First is “Dinoski suit”, for those trying to second-guess the others):

Interesting how all the British news reports claim him as their own, when the guy moved to Spain at the age of 5! Certainly, when he talks to the Spanish press he presents a more Spanish-oriented persona. Not that I'm making any point at all with that; it's simply an interesting snapshot of the concept of identity-by-proxy that the press seem to adhere to.

Pyremaniac, He is registered as GBR, you need a passport from a country to be able to ski for it.

I have skied with people registered with Belgium, Ireland and East Timor who are really French.

Sure. My observation was rather that the press don't miss an oportunity to state "British skier" or even "The Lancaster-born 2014 World Cup winner, who now lives in Spain" (BBC; makes it sound like the guy moved there last month or something)... yet why is his nationality particularly relevant to the fact that he's beaten the world record for indoor speed?

Again, I'm not really making any point here; I simply note that in our ever more globalized world, this latching onto national identity seems increasingly anachronistic. And the contrast between the Spanish articles and the Bristish ones is interesting.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

It's always been like that, and I agree it's weird, which is why it makes no difference to me. But most people lap that stuff up, I'd let them get on with it.

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

I've had an enquiry concerning the above, in relation to the opening post: does anyone happen to know the 'world indoor speed ski record for racer in 'skiing dinosaur' suit'?

Thanks in advance
