Help!!
Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better!
Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

off to Japan this Jan for the first time.
Done lots in Europe and BC and travelled to Japan on business plenty but never for skiing.
Going for Niseko, not terribly adventurous but we can tour and cat ski from there?
Anyone got any recommendations for places to stay? We'd favour ski in ski out and we will not have a car. Comfortable hotel for me and the wife. Love our Japanese food so want to be able to sample a few of options.
Any pointers/help would be gratefully received!

It's Aussie Christmas/summer hols for virtually all of Jan, so book early!
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Not much in the way of ski in/ski out in Japanese resorts. For convenience to the lifts in Niseko, focus on Upper Hirafu. There are a few ski in ski out places there and for the others its only a short walk to the lifts. Good choice of eating spots there too. The Hilton at Niseko Village would fit the bill for convenience and comfort, but is a little bit away from the action.
As
@Perty
said, Jan is busy in Niseko. It'll be a lot quieter elsewhere in Hokkaido, but Niseko undeniable offers the biggest range of accomodation and a convenient ski experience.

Plenty of ski-in, ski-out on Hokkaido
Niseko Annupuri
Niseko Village
Niseko Hirafu
Rusutsu
Kiroro
Tomamu
Furano
Sahoro
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

You don't want to stay in Annupuri, Rusutsu etc ... Best place to stay is Upper Hirafu if you do not want to isolate yourself. Hirafu has tons of delicious restaurants, bars and lovely hotels for all budgets.
We are heading out end of January again, cannot wait! You are going to absolutely LOVE the skiing there.
