Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Fastest Base for Dry Slope?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi

recently started regular riding on plastic again and noticed my board appears quite sticky (was better once the sprinklers were on!).

Am I likely to notice any significant gain in speed with a sintered base against my current extruded one?

Thanks

Chris

Fairy Liquid on a bar towel and slide over it before the run.

A tip on the diamonds in Glasgow.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Would that last for the entire run or just the first few yards? I suppose at least it would get your speed up initially.

Generally lasts the run (well Hillend may be the exception). Other alternatives a soft furniture wax on a cloth and glide over that at the top prior to each run or more hassle really cheap furniture spray polish.

Harder/denser bases are better but to be honest you are just better using a lubricant as mentioned by @GlasgowCyclops, or myself.

Time your runs for when the sprinklers are on especially as we move into the summer. If it is really hot better to sunbathe and chat than to try and ski down wink

One final tip if using the rented skis if warm go to the next length up or even a couple the extra surface area helps. You can do this with your own just have a pair 5-10cm longer. Do not use your best/main skis on dryslopes keep them for holidays.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Wax it!!!

For my son who races on Skis I use CH4 (Google it) and some zardoz; Use the search box on this forum for "Felix Method" instructions I posted a year or so ago. Maybe a bit of Graphite as well....

Thanks Simon. Sounds pretty technical and time consuming but I might give some of that wax a try.

Has anyone tried this?

“hydrophilic” seems to make sense for dry slope.

Not used that one but DATA have been around a long time (still using the brick sized blocks I bought from him well over 20yrs ago).

To be honest you are best just having a cloth/mat you run your skis over at the top of the slope, nothing will last more than a few runs at best ( normally one run ). You will get fed up of the faff trying to re-apply each run if you have to either lift or take a ski off each time.
