Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

TR Grand Bec N Ridge N couloir

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Went for a leg-stretcher yesterday to get used to skinning above 1000m above sea level again and see if I was finally clear of the sinusitis that has beaten me down the last week or two (no being the answer...).

The N couloir on the Grand Bec North ridge is a great 'mini-line' - overshadowed by its bigger neighbour the NW face proper it is still a 1500m day from Plan Fournier, with 400m of 40-45º couloir to keep things interesting.
In the picture below it is on the left hand half of the face rising to join a diagonal band of snow following the ridge.

As the upper section was ice with a dusting of loose snow a high point was called at 3150m on the ridge...

Snow was a mix of 'dust on rock solid/ice', 'crust on firm', 'pow on firm', crust, spring, really really good spring and a couple of cms of powder at the very bottom (go figure...) - definitely a mixed bag, and some mind-focussing conditions in the couloir itself, with a really icy layer just under the surface lurking in the middle.

As always, apologies for the POV-only vid - I'm not a fan, but it was a solo mission, and at least gives an idea of snow cover if anyone is heading that way...
