Poster: A snowHead

i am thinking of doing a basi course on mountain safety which involves some touring, only small walks....
i was thinking of using a pair of 192 rockers two's with some guardians bindings on.... i realise that they are a bit long but would they be ok for just an intro into it?

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Don't see why not, I've got Guardians on my 181cm Q105 Salomons, very similar and they tour fine
Unless you're 5'2"...........

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Your problem may come when you try to do kick turns. Difficult to tell until you try.
Also, have you got skins for them?

In general that'd be fine for shortish skins to get to lines in softish snow, but it depends a bit on conditions and terrain.
Unless you have longer and more flexible legs than I, steep kickturns outside of powder will be a little puckering... Though ski crampons help a lot. The twin tip isn't ideal as you it means you can't slide the tail under one ski to make kickturns easier, which is a very useful cheat on longer skis.
Up to around 30° and soft snow you should be ok though.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

No skins for them, but will see if it's possible to get some

This! I'm super flexible and struggled a bit kick-turning skis that are only 13cm longer than I am tall. While I don't doubt that it will become smoother with practise, it is something to consider.

I managed kick turns ok(ish) on my Bents which are 186cm. Have the same bindings on them too, just Atomic's version.

@ajc2260626, if your doing the EMS course then it's a relatively a small amount of touring. It might be an idea to rent rather than compromise all your gear. If you really like it then you will want a proper rig anyway. Long skis and twin tips are a pain for touring, and make kick turns much more difficult. The main thing in preparation is that you are fitter and more acclimatised than at least one other participant.

Do you need to do kick turns for the MS? I suspect the OP isn't doing the level 4 EMS (but could be wrong!!)

@kitenski, uphill kick turns? I'd be amazed if not - it's a pretty fundamental aspect of touring!

Have been 3 gym sessions a week for 6 months (2 of these are with a personal trainer) so fitness is coming along nicely..... The reason for thinking the switch is that I need to take the bindings off anyway to put on another ski, so was thinking about putting the guardians on my rocker 2's if I did enjoy it I would get some appropriate skis etc..... What would be half decent skins for these skis?
