@Mollerski, I think its a fight between two ESF members, head of esf Megeve and a ESF meribel instructor? BASI were just at the conference where it happened? A bit grim
edit: you changed the title!

Maybe better to remove the thread or add more information, given this thread is just a title so far.

It's seems to have disappeared from the basi Facebook page. It was reported that a 64y.o. french esf instructor from meribel was attacked and put in hospital for 8 days by the head of the ESF in Megeve following an argument over the status of older instructors in France. The report was followed by the usual anti french comments.

Platetski:
"The disagreement is seen as part of a long-running battle between the more experienced instructors who claim a right to work ahead of some of the younger ones."
You've got to love these closed shops. Their courts nailed the foreign competition for them so now they're starting to fight amongst themselves. Lovely people.

@davidof, agreed, he would certainly be looking at jail time for that in the UK.

I did hear that there was a lot of tension between young instructors and the older ones, with the younger ones only getting work if it was busy. Also, the stagiers being exploited, where they worked hard for a couple of years on lower pay then were booted out for not passing the euro test, to be replaced by more cheap labour.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Maybe they could get one of them to host 'Top Gear'.

@davidof, Further to your link, is ADDMES a breakaway group from the original SNMSF instructor union? It seems the French authorities currently only recognise one ski instructor trade union, which policy may not be consistent with French and EU law?

You know it makes sense.
|
Reading the report it is still being investigated. Presumably the prosecuting office will be looking into it before deciding who will face charges and what they will be.
A court case has been rumbling on for a while where ESF have been taken to court by older instructors for age discrimination. The older guys have been winning.

Its Geoffers link, I just removed his auto-translate for those who wanted the original French.
> I did hear that there was a lot of tension between young instructors and the older ones
you are correct that the more experienced ESF instructors have first dibs.
> the stagiers being exploited, where they worked hard for a couple of years on lower pay then were booted out for not passing the euro test,
the advantage with the French system is they've already passed the TT so the Eurotest should be achievable for them.
> as if you don't have a great pension why shouldn't you be able to continue to work
it is a hot topic, covertly private sector pensions are going to be reduced by up to 40% if you draw at the legal retirement age of 62 and you'll have to work to 67 if you want a full pension in France (much like everywhere else in Europe for that matter).

and if you're an "independent" who makes contributions to the CIPAV you'll be lucky to get a liveable pension (unlike the army of "fonctionnaires").

Two blokes have a fight.
Happen to work in skiing.
What's the interest? I mean, it's not like it's of global significance, unlike Top Gear?

This was a proper fight not a handbagging. If Clarkson threw a proper punch, he'd cough a lung up.

To answer your question, no. It is a legal defence organisation for older ski instructors who are being forced to retire. Class actions are not allowed as such so I guess this group represents interested parties.

If it has been had been a punch up over "you looking at my bird?" then it would have just been two blokes who happen to work in skiing. Bit more to it than that, wouldn't you say?

Fight between two people are an unprovoked assault. Time will tell. isolated communities with few jobs have always had disputes of employment and closed shops. Skiing is a relatively new industry whereas disputes like this have been happening in fishing villages for many hundreds of years.
I don't know if the instruction market has shrunk over the years but modern skis and technique have certainly shortened learning times. It must have squeezed things a bit.

ouch multiple fractures and repair to his orbital eye socket. JP was personal coah for a couple of years to one of our racers, and indeed theres alot to do with 'compulsory' retirement and who should and shouldnt be working!! going to take some time to heel, whereas Clarkson's a bit of a d**k JP is a really nice bloke.
