Unfortunately for me I need RX sunglasses but for those of you that don't there are some cracking deals on Sportpursuit now, think about 75% off. Vuarnet IMO are one of, if not the, best sunglasses for water and snow sports. Shame I can't use them!

@swishtony, Do they look better in the plastic than they do in picture form then? I love my Oakleys still at the moment for both water and winter sport.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I have a pair of 20+ year old metal framed Vuanets, still the best lenses I own if a little heavy as they are glass. The optical quality is amazing.

To be honest I've not had a pair for a couple of years now and not seen these in the flesh. I'm just basing it on the reputation of the quality of their lenses, always sworn by them but now need RX's so use Bolle mainly.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

@swishtony, Fair call, I I reckon if I could try them on I might try a pair, probably good that I cant!

Until recently I didn't know this about Jean Vuarnet:
Quote: |
In the early sixties Jean Vuarnet was asked by his hometown of Morzine to help develop the skiing-area around the town. He did that by creating the purposebuild resort of Avoriaz together with a group of young architects. Around Avoriaz he developed a new area for alpine skiing later linked to other areas in France and Switzerland known as The Portes du Soleil. |

@sarah, Flooded is a bit strong... just looked and think they only have 3 models as far as I can see. Maybe they aren't as desirable as they used to be be but a few years ago these were considered one of the best lenses money could buy.

the fact that they're on sale in T K Maxx doesn't mean they're not good.

@swishtony, +1
Wore a pair out over a couple of decades. Best lenses I've ever peered through. Good in pretty much anything up to a proper whiteout. Been getting by recently with some Revos which are almost - but not quite - as good. Just ordered a pair off SP.

And as for flooded ok then....small sample of two local stores having lots in plus them being online led me to assume they are everywhere! Perhaps not!

Yep that is of course true @pam w, @sarah, yeah, not sure my store would have them.... Hastings so not may ski types down this way I don't think
@Big Paua, All the way through the 80's, 90's, 00's and up to a about 5 years ago I wore nothing else for skiing, had a pair once for about 7 years which I eventually lost and had to replace. Even back then they were bloody expensive!

You know it makes sense.

Just looked at them on Txmaxx website. Found out that if you buy online you can drop them into a shop for a refund if you don't like them.

I skied almost exclusively in Vuarnet Skilynx (there are various lens types) for about 20 years. A truly lovely lens. I suspect that some of the more modern things (? Oakley Prizm?) may now have the edge, but it's a high bar.
Also near indestructible, just don't put them in a pocket that has sandpaper in it
