Report in Saturday's Times newspaper that only 1 in 5 cars will be subjected to passport checks at the tunnel. Plus anyone who buys a ticket on the spot, plus foreign registered cars. So it might not be too bad after all.

My guess is that, even if only in the early days, they will throw quite a lot of manpower at the problem to get themselves off to a smooth start.

Are they going to make any changes to procedure at the airports? No obvious sign of anything at LHR. No new kiosks, building work etc.

I think that the passenger information that is collected by the airlines is passed onto Border Force so it is unlikely that there is a need for a physical control as the checks will be electronic.
I really don't understand the problem that some people have with waiting for a few minutes to enter or exit the UK.

Not that it was my comment anyway, but it was clearly a figure of speech and not intended to imply that refugees were rubbish. Of course, the residents of Sangatte may have a different view.

@altis, thanks for the heads up. We are travelling on Friday and back on the 8th (booger it but it can't surely be worse than end of Feb half term  ). Haven't had any requests for API but will look into it this evening.

probly unrelated but on my train from Landeck to Zurich last week some sort of Gestapo-esque plod steamed aboard at Buchs (as the train backs in and out of Lichtenstein for whatever reason) and demanded to gawp at my passport.
All very camp and felt like a bad remake of "The Lady Vanishes"

They have implemented API which is only half of it - the easy half. The queues may develop when, from 8th April, they have to reconcile each passenger and their passport with that information. Please stop confusing the issue by providing misinformation.

I beg your pardon? Read the eurotunnel information. I think you will find its been implemented. I also think that as I am now relaxing, in resort with snow falling I couldn't care less!

We had our passports checked on the way out last Saturday the 28th. The car in front, my sister in laws, didn t get checked...... Fortunately as they discovered their daughters passport had expired!!!! Doh!!!!

@stefoy4me, I suspect there will be a form-filling operation involved and then they will be waved on their way. It delayed us through passport control by probably another 10 minutes at most. (More than I can say for the subsequent 4 hour delay from a train broken down in the tunnel).
After all, there will be plenty of other proof, including her parent's passports that she is entitled to live in the UK.
