Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Hans Grugger

Did anyone see his spectacular fall today - I felt sick watching it - he had to get airlifted off the mountain - is there any further news ?

See this quote from skiracing.com

"Hans Grugger of Austria, running 24th, had one of the season’s ugliest crashes so far, doing the splits just before a bump and bouncing face first into the ground. He slid to a stop with blood streaming from his mouth and laid on the his back writing in pain, clutching his right upper leg.

Grugger, who won Bormio last season (and Chamonix), had almost certainly clinched one of his team’s coveted Olympic start positions in at least one of the speed events, having won the Val Gardena super G and finished on the podium in two downhills, Beaver Creek and Val d’Isere".

Suspected fractured femur according to Eurosport - but that news has been there since the race ended. Hopefully someone will know more, PG? And I'm not surprised you felt sick. The TV coverage was disgusting. They showed the fall so many times rolling eyes . Ghoulish Evil or Very Mad

This further report from Slam! Sports covers another racer - Brad Spence of Canada - who broke a leg on Wednesday during training on the Bormio/Stelvio course.
Quote:
"I've been saying for years that this downhill is too dangerous," said Reigning Olympic downhill champion Fritz Strobl. "For the last couple of years it was OK but now it's back to being too dangerous. I'm happy I made it down healthy."

Was watching a sports news program a little while ago and its suppose to be dislocated femur. Very nasty as he'll have completly torn the ligaments.

Crash looked bad and the replays looked worse. Split of the skis was nasty and he went face first into the slope. He had a blooded mouth/face and was clutching his right hip.

The crash of the fore runner was also very nasty, looked like he managed to get ski pole tangled in the safety netting and that wrentched his arm.

Third-placed Gruenfelder's crash in the finish area looked painful too. Apparently some knee damage, don't know how serious.

PG, It did. But there wasn't any blood, he wasn't helicoptered off, so Eurosport (British anyway) didn't run it (at least) half a dozen times Shocked

Paul Mason, Could be a career ending crash though - poor man. It takes a lot to make those guys scream and groan and he was plainly doing both.

What ever happened to full-face helmets for downhill racing?. Could possibly have reduced the facial damage.

Yep its a pity he fell on the last little jump as he was about 0.3s up on the then leader. As it was he ended up second by 0.03s.

Eventual winner won by about 0.3s so Gruenfelder may well have won or at worst been second (he finished 3rd).
