Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Transfer from Bourg St Maurice to Tignes le Lac, evening of 28th March 2015

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I have a Eurostar ticket that gets me to Bourg at 18:49, 28/03/2015. I need to get up the hill to Tignes le Lac with skis, boots and a bag. From their timetable on the web, it looks like the last Altibus leaves Bourg about 25 minutes before Eurostar arrives. That seems a bit bonkers. Have any of you good people got better information? If buses really are not available, how to I go about trying to share a taxi? Eighty Euros for a 35 minute solo ride really makes my eyes water. I'm not averse to sticking out my thumb, but I'm a bit out of practice. The Ostend-Katmandhu trip was a few decades ago....

Thank you.

Sadly due to the regional reduction in bus subsidies that's it. You may get lucky with hitching but as its nearly dark and I assume you will be laden with baggage its going to be difficult. Best option is to ask around on the train/station for someone to share a taxi. €80 is the going rate - pretty much the same rate for a similar distance from Heathrow - it may smart but that's life.

Thanks for the reply chocksaway. That's a bit grim. Does anybody know of some notice board somewhere to contact 'fellow sufferers? Thanks.

You might get lucky on the "what's on in the tarentaise" or "tarentaise transfers" Facebook pages.

Also don't count to the ski train being on time. Last Saturday it was nearly an hour late by the time it got to Bourg, apparently it was due to snow.

Oh well, at least it wasn't leaves on the line.

Ye Gods! This gets worse and worse! Eurostar is increasingly sounding like an utter bummer! Blooming expensive too. The Man on Seat 61 has a lot to answer for.
BTW, Thanks for the advice folks. It's greatly appreciated.

I would rather pay 80 Euros for a taxi than join Facebook.

Grump.

From the paper timetable here in Tignes that service ran on the following Saturdays only: 20/12-3/01 and 7/02-7/03, confirmed by mobiesavoie.

Thanks, chocksaway. I had already spotted that in the small print of their timetable. I phoned the tourist office in Tignes and they confirmed it.

HERE'S WHAT HAPPENED:
At Bourg St Maurice, stepping off Eurostar, I asked a couple of ski reps who were in charge of loading their tour coaches. The first rep said he was sorry but his bus was full. The Crystal rep took pity on me and handed me over to his beautiful sidekick on a coach. She dropped me off about 150 metres from my apartment. Thank you.

On the way back, a week later, I bought a 12 Euro bus ticket at the tourist office in Tignes le Lac. It was supposed to take from 9:40 hrs to 12:10 hrs on Saturday morning but arrived an hour and a half early. There's a market in Bourg to wander around to kill time and plenty of bars to frequent. It's a good idea to buy your bus ticket in advance....people were being turned away because the bus was full.

Crossing Paris on the way back from Gare de Lyon to Gare du Nord is easy if you buy some RER/Metro tickets at St Pancras before you leave the UK. I was laden down with skis/boots/clobber and didn't want the aggravation of fumbling with ticket machines. It's a good idea to allow an hour and a half to make the transfer across Paris by RER. I made it in thirty five minutes but allowed just under two hours so that it could be stress-free.

Good luck.
