Hi all, I need some help in surprising the wife, it's our 2nd wedding anniversary on the 12th of March and I'm hoping to surprise her by taking her away for a long weekend away from the 12th to the 16th, I'm looking at Avoriaz as it looks like a nice short transfer time as she hates busses, I'm struggling to find accommodation as its not a full week, does anybody know of any accommodation available for that period and also would you agree it's a good resort choice, Im a fairly confident snowboarder and she is an early intermediate skier, any help and advise would be much appreciated.

I might be inclined to stay in Morzine rather than Avoriaz. That way you can head up to Avoriaz or go the other way to the Pleney side and over to Les Gets. You may also get more choice of long weekend accommodation and the transfer from GVA is shorter.

@notverygoodatskiing, try http://www.chaletsdirect.com and the solutions room
state what you want and you will get chalet owners / operators posting what they have
@halfhand, idea is the best one
you could do grand massif (samoens or les carroz?) as just as short as pds or even la clusaz / grand bornand

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

That's great, I've just put my details on the website so I'll see what occurs, the other reason I looked at Avoriaz was because of the height, we like to have snow in resort for that alpine feel when having a wonder around, I'm just looking into morzine and it does look ideal for our needs though, we are used to going to Finland and just having a few lifts and pistes to choose from, I take it that it's pretty easy to get around to the other parts of resort so it's looking pretty promising, thanks a lot for your help so far.

@notverygoodatskiing, avoriaz is not nearly as good as Morzine for evening restaurants. I'd be looking at a nice hotel rather than a chalet, do you really want an "intimate" celebration amongst lots of random strangers?
Avoriaz also not always so pretty unless snowed recently in qhich case Morzine possibly white too.
Left field Murren or Wengen? Car free, chocolate box Swiss villages, Eiger, etc.

In talks with a chalet owner at the mo, it's looking good so far as know one else is booked in other than us, obviously that could change at any time though, very excited and finding it increasingly difficult not to tell the Mrs

What I mean is, if it's a sizeable place and there's nobody booked in, possibly it's not actually that brilliantly good.....

Fair enough, as long as it's warm and they serve food then I'm happy.

@notverygoodatskiing, yes, sorry I meant to add that but obvious I think. I believe that the owner/host goes out skiing with them, as we met them in a restaurant in Les Gets last year - well ast least some days.

I can't wait, he seems like a nice guy and has offered to show us the area, I doubt he needs an awful lot of persuasion to get out and enjoy the snow.
