Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Easter Austria

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi, I'm thinking of booking some flights to Munich for this coming Easter Weekend, out 2nd April, back 6th April.

Any views on resorts within reasonable driving distance from Munich which are high enough to provide decent snow cover and skiing early April.

I was considering St Anton since I've been before but it's a 3 hour drive. I'm aware other lower resorts are closer but not sure on likley snow conditions early April.

Thanks in advance

Brian

You can get to Mayrhofen in 2hours from Munich Airport and with these dates you will just miss the snowbombing festival, which may be a good thing or a bad thing for you.

Have a look here to see typical conditions at this time. http://www.snowheads.com/ski-forum/viewtopic.php?p=2124833&highlight=easter#2124833

Zillertal? The pass covers the whole valley including the glacier

Thanks @JimboS and @Col the Yeti, defo worth considering that area and encouraging to hear most likely decent conditions at that time of year (usual caveats apply!). I think we'll get the flights and car booked, and plan the resort nearer the time.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Might be better not to wait too long to book accommodation. In theory it's high season so there may be a bit of demand for rooms over that weekend.

Easter is not high season at all in most of Austria, although UK tour operators are keen to tell you otherwise. Book the flights and car, then wait until you can be certain of where there is snow. As a fallback you will always have the glaciers, but stay in a larger resort and drive up to the glaciers to have a greater choice of accommodation and restaurants for the evening. E.g Zell am See rather than Kaprun for Kitzsteinhorn, or Mayrhofen for Hintertux.

Do you have kids? Free kids passes for Ski Amade and Skiwelt. Low-ish but keep an eye on conditions closer to the time, we had a great week first week of April in Ski Amade.

I skied for a couple of days last Easter week in Obertauren... It had plenty of snow for the time of year (23rd April) when no snow was to be seen anywhere else en route.... it is within a decent driving distance from munich......
