I have always wanted to have a go at Bobsleigh and while in La Plagne last week I finally got the chance. My 7 year old son was desperate to try it once he saw a video on their website. It is a truly amazing experience. The “raft” has a top speed of 80kph but it felt much faster than that. You feel the g-force as you go round the bends and up the walls. Oscar looks a bit concerned at times in the video but when we came to a stop he was begging me for another run. At 41 euros per person per run he wasn’t getting another one.
The experience reminds me of the first time I rode a proper motorbike. The thrill and adrenalin rush was very similar. We were all babbling uncontroably for about 10 minutes after the run.
The Bob track is a little out of LP - you'll pass it on the way up the hill to the resort. If you're with a TO, they often organise group visits incl bus transport. If not, you might need a taxi there and back.
Not a cheap excursion but pretty well unique. You might feel it has to be done.
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

looks fantastic. I watched the world cup bob there several years ago and was amazing - totally fills the senses with the speed and the thunderous noise as they come blasting past you. Always fancied having a go myself.
Looks like you had great fun, one thing you can't see is how much uphill there is at the end of the course, quite a steep slope in reality isnt it!
It took about 10 minutes in the Esprit minibus to get from Belle Plagne to the track. They provide free trasport one evening per week.
There are other alternatives to the Bob Raft, however, they all required children to be older than my son. The Speed Luge looks great fun but for the ultimate experience you can get a ride in a proper bobsleigh with a professional driver. Maybe next time.......

@Dubaian, there is a free shuttle bus for the Bobsleigh run, and also an hourly bus that stops there to-and-from Charmettes
After all it is free

It's a popular thing, that's for sure. When I was a rep for Crystal in Les Arcs we had a weekly trip over to the Bobsleigh for our guests, typically got 1 or 2 minibuses full of Les Arcs guests (so 8-16 pax each time). Not bad for something that meant you had to give up an afternoon of skiing and spend at least an hour each way just to get there.
Getting a free go when we didn't quite get a full bob raft complement was something of a perk!
You'll get to see more forums and be part of the best ski club on the net.

I seem to remember needing a very stiff brandy after doing the bob raft. Also, nice bruises from getting squashed against the side of the raft - Ouch

We're in Belle Plagne with Crystal 14th-21st March.
I have a big birthday on the 19th and during the week the plan is to do the full Olympic Bobsleigh run as well as Tandem Parapente, the Zip Wire and Moonlight Skiing.
snowHeads are a friendly bunch.

@teerev, The Oxygène Sledge run is also a great laugh, from Aime 2000 to La Roche
And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Great idea for the young and bendy but I've seen far too many injuries caused to people of my advanced age from sledging, especially after a drink or two, so I'm afraid I'll be sticking to skiing and the more sensible extreme sports that involve someone driving/flying me.
So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much
