Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Long slim fitting shell jacket reccomendations

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi all,

Looking at picking up a new hard shell as my current is slightly too short and it's bloody irritating. I'm constantly have to hitch it down and it's too short to sit comfortably under a harness.

I'm 6"5 / 195cm and slim hence my problem. The only shell I've been able to find in resort that is considerably longer is the Haglofs Vassi. I'm just looking for others that anyone might know of.

Possible options :
Sweet Protection Supernaut?
Arcteryx Sidewinder / Beta AR (I heard from someone these fitted longer?)

I'm not very tall but quite slim (1m70, 60kgs) and found it quite tight at my size.

I switched from a Arcteryx Sidewinder SV, to a Norrona Lofoten GTX, and I would say the Lofoten has longer arms. I'm a slim 6 foot, and the medium fits fine.

@rich739, I've got the Supernaut, it's a brilliant jacket and long too, should do the trick!

Norrona Lofoten.

Sweet is great, but quite a bit baggier.

I would say Norrona - I have the Arcteryx Caden jacket as the Norrona was ever so slightly too long on me in the shop (I'm 6ft).

(Even though I bought the Norrona lofoten trousers, which are great)

Hi all...just joined the forum and saw this question in this post. You might want to take a look at Mammut as a brand. I'm not sure if their stuff is German

or Swiss...oh, just looked it up...Swiss it is! They have a longer slim fit with one of the very best manufacturing qualities in the biz. Just my opinion.

Their stuff is a bit hard to find but if you're in the States there is a good dealer at the Bent Gate in Golden, CO. Hope that helps...happy skiing! (I'm not

affiliated with Mammut or Bent Gate in any way other than being a customer)

If you are tall and slim I would say that Scandinavian brand like Norrona is a safer bet for a good fit. I am female and need XS for pants but Arcteryx XS is for a person no taller than 5 ft. Norrona fits me like a glove. Or try Mammut as suggested above.

Bought my first ever Norrona jacket prior to this season. Having just returned from 4 weeks in Morzine, I can honestly say it is the best fitting jacket I have ever had. I am 6ft 4in and usually find jackets, fleeces, T-shirts etc to be on the 'neat' side. Norrona definitely appears to be a longer fit.

Arcteryx Sabre is a longer body.

@rich739, I am 6'4" and love the Arcteryx fit... The Theta jacket runs really long Also, you can get their trousers in Longs which are 2" longer than normal..

Haglofs chute, £199 on sport pursuit at the moment. Its longer than the Colouir Pro, its the same length as the Vassi.

Centre back length: 86 cm in size L, don't think you will find much longer than that. Its not slim fit, more regular. I'm 40" chest and have a medium.

The colouir pro is shorter (by 3cm) but more fitted.

@rich739, also why are you not keen on the Vassi? Colour/too baggy/price? It does fit the bill for your requirements (i.e. its very long) so if you say why you aren't going for that one then its easier to suggest some appropriate alternatives.

I liked the woman's version of the Haglof Couloir Pro. It looked great on its own but the armholes (not the arms) were too slim to put a good sized fleece underneath. And I don't have fat arms. wink

@rich739, I'm the same height build to you.

I've constantly had the same problem of trying to get a jacket that fits. Most manufacturers only think of increasing girth when they go up to XL and so we end up in tents with short arms. Sleeve length and body length whilst remaining a nice fit is the main problem.

I have an old Arc'teryx sidewinder. good jacket but a bit baggy in XL.

Last year, I managed to get hold of a Lib tech Brainstorm at a steal from TK Maxx. http://www.backcountry.com/lib-technologies-brainstorm-jacket-mens

Up until last month, It was without doubt the best fitting jacket for tall people that i've had. In fact, the body is slightly too long as it's designed to protect the to of the thighs in horrid weather. Only drawback is the weight. Being made from polyester it is on the heavier side.

I was lucky enough to be gifted a XL Norrona Lofoten pro shell at Christmas and this fits even better than the Lib tech. Nice long sleeves, perfect length body and slim enough fitting whilst retaining room for layering. It is expensive, but worth the money for fit alone. Add to that pro shell, durability, light weight and a very well designed hood that is easy to raise over my helmet when the wind is howling up in the scottish mountains and it's the best jacket i've had. Nice bright colours too.

Brilliant thanks for the help all. Going to look at all of the above. The honest reason I'm not sure about the Vassi is I already have the pants so would prefer not to match.

Well the real reason is price. The more brands I can look at the better chance of finding a decent deal /second hand on eBay.

Vassi jacket is half price on sport pursuit at the moment, but guess you've already seen it.

What are the pants like, good length? I'm 6'2" but have long legs so struggle to find pants long enough normally.

Yeah I have thanks, just £260 is a bit over the top for me at the moment as I live in France and the pound is so strong. I should've picked up the sweet protections when they were on sale at 66% off last season but figured I could wait. Oh well.

The bib trousers fit well although I'd like them ever so slightly longer for use with a harness. Very good though. Would recommend.
