Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

 Poster: A snowHead

So, having just noticed the thread on blisters / Compeed.

What are the neccessities to pack for a weeks skiing. Things which are easier / cheaper to buy in the UK and take with you.

@JanieS, if you're talking about meds, just about anything in the paracetamol/ibuprofen/alka seltzer/plasters/immodium type/savlon range.

Sun tan lotion. Co-op is usually the best place (They used to do to it at cost)
The price of everything increase with altitude. If you can get things in the supermarkets in the valley then do so. Lip protector etc.
I always buy a few packs of drinks cartoons. They squash flattish in pockets/rucksacks and are a great way of hydrating without spending lots on the mountain.
Chocolate is always cheaper in the valley a good way to get a quick sugar injection. Bit of an art form in storing it in the place when skiing. To close to the body- slush. Too far away-rock hard.

@Montana, I never cease to be amazed by the amount of painkillers people seem to neck if all the 'what to pack' advice is anything to go by. Mine go out of date before I use them.

The most important bit of kit are the skis - but don't forget, for those chill times when one is not in a discotek - Condoms might come in handy - but if one is of into the backcountry don't forget the transeiver Toofy Grin

AFAIK that depends on the materials it's made of and cubic capacity. YMMV.

Painkillers seem much more expensive in resort than back in the UK, sticking a pack in your case might save a few quid.

@pam w Very Happy

Everything I pack is essential. My ski trip 'pack light' list has been refined over the last few years since I struggled carrying board bag and a big suitcase up a snowy hill in ValT and was assisted by a lovely Norwegien girl with an absolutely tiny bag.

Ever since then if it doesn't fit in my board bag and hand luggage rucksack it doesn't come.

@Lizzard, some folk need regular ibuprofen as a prophylactic anti-inflamatory when skiing. 32p for 16 in Boots...how much in LDA?

@Lizzard, you lucky b*****d. I live on the stuff. Drugs and alcohol you can keep, but ibuprofen is a must. I take a big box with me. Regardless of the cost or availability anywhere else, I must have my stash.

JanieS, please take some (most, actually) of the above suggestions with a healthy pinch of salt, we were teasing because the Off Piste forum is for topics about off piste skiing Very Happy Except the avalanche bacon, you definitely need that wink

You will get more sensible answers if you post in the Piste forum. Better yet, use the search function to search for "packing list" – you'll find many, many threads with lots of good suggestions.
