Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Looking at options for going to Tignes.

Is any particular airport cheaper to fly into than another?

Depends which airport you fly from and what date, the prices are very variable, but you're looking at Chambery, Grenoble, Lyon & Geneva for Tignes...you can get an overview of the various options on http://www.skyscanner.net/ , then go to the various airline websites to book.

Another consideration is how you will be getting from the arrival airport up to resort, transfers can cost more than flights.

Another option might be the Eurostar train to Bourg St Maurice, which isn't far short of Tignes with regular buses up & down.

Ryanair are generally the cheapest. Geneva, Grenoble or Turin. Chambery is a bit closer but I don't know of really cheap flights there.
In my experince Turin is cheaper to fly to and hire a car.

including the cost of the tunnel? And you won't get winter tires. And it's a long way to drive. And Ryanair are so awful. This afternoon I picked up a Polish guy who was looked for a lift from Turin to the Maurienne Valley. He had flown to Turin from Stansted today because Ryanair cancelled his flight yesterday, for no particular reason so he missed the planned rendezvous with friends.

There's no single answer to this question. It all depends.

It is a fair way but much of it dual carriageway and a stunning drive.
I guess you get what you pay for with Ryanair.

@cameronphillips2000, Ok do the sums and convince me/us. I suspect that cost wise it'll balance out but Turin won't be the cheapest when all factors are considered. Toofy Grin

there were some horror stories about "hidden charges" for car hire at Turin on another thread a day or so ago

It all depends what you can get the flights for on the dates you want to go. We were looking at the first week of teh Easter hols. FLights were £1500 for Geneva, we couldn't even get a flight back from Granoble and it was £805 for Turin

Yeah those are just flights, what about transfers, transfer times, tolls for road and or tunnels?

The rome2rio website is quite handy for comparing total costs - you put in your actual start and end points and it works out the whole route including buses, flights and trains.

sometimes it's where you fly from, not to.
For an extra 50 euros, and/or 2 hours driving, I can have the privilege of flying ryanair rather than scheduled.
With 2 hours of driving I can be 1/3rd of the way to the Alps.

I enjoyed the drive from Geneva to Tignes but remember to add the cost of motorway tolls.
