Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Struggling to find a helmet that fits and is within budget - gaper?

Hi

So I'm struggling to find a helmet that fits. Most helmets the front sits too low on my forehead pushing my goggles down against my nose and restricting breathing. It was manageable though not comfortable last season.

I need decent venting otherwise it gets rather too sweaty.

I am also unwilling to spend more than about £50.

I've tried Tog 24, Giro Nine, White Rock, and Trespass.

The Trespass is the only one that does the job, but I'm not sure about goggle gap.

I go skiing in Europe usually in mid February, so it's not that cold.

So is this too much of a gap?

@rossyl, that sounds uncomfortable. Have you tried kids/youth helmets. The one in the picture looks fine 'gap' wise - the most important thing is does it fit well on your nut? Toofy Grin

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Thanks.
My helmet size is probably about a 58cm, so adult ones fit. The Trespass helmet in the photo fits really well. I was only concerned about the gap.

@rossyl, that's not a huge gap. Just don't forget to get creative with the suncream wink

@rossyl, My Giro Seam has height/tilt adjustment to alter the gap with goggles. I've seen similar in other makes too.

@rossyl, Get a thin balaclava in case of any really cold days and the gaps is irrelevant?

Good to hear.
I was concerned I'd be lambasted for the size of the gap. Instead it seems to be quite acceptable.

I think the adjustable tilt helmets would take me above the £50 I'm willing to spend.

The helmet is very comfortable and fits well.

Just did the 10 year old child reaction test. Sorry to say he's cracked a rib laughing. So yes, it is ridiculous; but then ridicule never killed anyone... although a bad case of gaperburn might.

@rossyl, rational adults shouldn't care what other people's children think of them. Man up and just wear the helmet.

I think I'd be disappointed at any 10 year old not laughing at an adult wearing a ski helmet and goggles at home while taking a selfie, so the premise alone of the photo is funny enough.

If I wasn't willing to put up with 10 year olds laughing at me, I would not ski at all. The average 10 year old is probably considerably more accomplished at skiing. Smile
